For those with a basic understanding of climbing, this course is an opportunity to take your skills to the next level. It focuses on improving technique, increasing confidence, and expanding your knowledge of climbing gear and systems. Whether outdoors or in an indoor climbing gym, you’ll receive expert coaching designed to help you progress at your own pace.
Sessions begin with an introduction to climbing equipment, including ropes, belay devices, and quickdraws. You’ll focus on belaying with various devices, understanding seconding in trad climbing, and learning how to place protection gear.
As the course progresses, you’ll work on your climbing technique with movement coaching and route reading. Outdoor sessions allow you to put these skills into practice at local crags, while indoor options will focus on sport climbing and bouldering, with specific exercises to improve your technique.
Outdoor sessions take place at nearby crags, offering a natural setting to practise trad and sport climbing.
For those who prefer indoor settings, climbing gyms provide a controlled environment for sport climbing and bouldering, with opportunities to fine-tune your technique and use gym equipment such as the Moon Board and Campus Board.
Participants should already have a basic understanding of climbing, including knowledge of tying into a harness, basic belaying, and climbing movement.
