Once certified, you’ll be recognised as an AIDA 4 Master Freediver—ready for instructor-level training or deeper personal exploration. As always, conditions vary by location, so check with your chosen centre for specific logistics and prerequisites.
Completing the AIDA 4 Master Freediver course certifies you to freedive to a maximum depth of 38–40 m / 125–131 ft in constant weight (CWT), provided conditions are suitable and safety practices followed. It’s also a pre-requisite for the AIDA Instructor course and is recognised internationally as an advanced-level freediving certification.
You’ll gain a much deeper understanding of freediving physiology, including the mammalian dive reflex, lung squeeze, and decompression stress. You’ll also refine your ability to perform advanced equalisation techniques such as Frenzel-Fattah or mouthfill, essential for deeper dives. The course also builds your skills in managing safety and rescue scenarios at depth, including blackouts and loss of motor control (LMC).
Whether you’re interested in progressing toward competitive freediving or simply want to become a more skilled and confident deep diver, AIDA 4 opens the door to the next level of your freediving journey.
The AIDA 4 course typically runs over 4 to 5 days and includes at least three theory sessions, two pool training sessions, and four open water dives. Centres may vary in how they structure the course, but all must meet the official AIDA standards. Expect around 20–25 hours of total instruction time, including classroom, confined water, and open water sessions.
The AIDA 4 Master Freediver course includes both theoretical and practical assessments. You'll be evaluated on knowledge of advanced physiology, training methodologies, and safety practices through written exams. In the water, students must demonstrate high-level freediving performance, including a minimum 32-meter constant weight dive, 2 minutes and 45 seconds static apnea, and a 70-meter dynamic apnea swim. Instructors also assess your ability to coach others, manage risks, and execute safety protocols. Most centres follow AIDA International's standards, but assessment conditions and depths may vary slightly based on location. Adventuro’s partner centres provide expert guidance to help you prepare through progressive training sessions and feedback.

Find activitiesThe AIDA 4 Master Freediver is an advanced-level certification from AIDA International. It’s designed for experienced freedivers who want to deepen their knowledge and performance. The course covers advanced equalisation techniques, physiology, training principles, and safety procedures. It also prepares students for instructor-level training. You’ll complete demanding breath-hold and depth requirements and learn to coach and support other divers. It’s a challenging but rewarding step for serious freedivers.
You must have successfully completed the AIDA 3 Advanced Freediver course or hold an equivalent certification from another recognised agency. You should also be at least 18 years old (16 with parental consent) and have a recent medical certificate stating you're fit for freediving. You’ll need solid experience with depth diving, equalisation, and rescue procedures before starting this course.
To pass the AIDA 4 course, you must complete the following minimums: a 32-meter constant weight dive (CWT), 2 minutes 45 seconds of static apnea (STA), and 70 meters of dynamic apnea (DYN). These are baseline standards, and your instructor will help you build up to them safely through progressive training. Centres may also allow deeper dives based on your ability and local conditions.
The AIDA 4 course usually runs over 4 to 6 days, depending on the location and your individual pace. It includes classroom theory, dry training, and multiple open water sessions. Some centres may offer extended formats to allow more time for skill development and rest. Adventuro’s partner schools often provide flexible schedules and coaching packages to suit your needs.
The theory portion dives deeper into topics like advanced human physiology, gas exchange, barotrauma risk, training cycles, and freedive-specific nutrition. You’ll also study safety management, rescue scenarios, and coaching techniques. A written exam at the end evaluates your understanding, and most centres provide comprehensive study materials and instructor-led discussions to help you prepare.
Yes. The AIDA 4 Master Freediver certification is a prerequisite for beginning the AIDA Instructor Course. It focuses on developing the performance, knowledge, and leadership skills needed to support and coach other freedivers. Completing AIDA 4 is an important step toward becoming a professional in the sport.
Most centres recommend having your own freediving equipment, including a low-volume mask, long fins, wetsuit, weight belt, and snorkel. Having gear you’re familiar with can improve comfort and performance. That said, many Adventuro partner centres offer rental options if needed—just check with your chosen location when booking.
Absolutely. AIDA 4 places strong emphasis on safety, including advanced buddy protocols, rescue techniques, and understanding your own limits. Instructors are trained to recognise signs of hypoxia and barotrauma, and sessions are structured with gradual progressions. Always follow your instructor’s guidance and never dive alone. Safety is foundational to freediving at this level.
