The Karkonosze are the Sudetes' headline ridge — granite trails, mountain biking and winter skiing along the Czech border without the full Tatra permit theatre. Fog and rain arrive fast on the ridge; valley towns like Szklarska Poręba make practical bases. Pack layers even in July.
Ridges, bikes and snow
Under the Sudetes, Karkonosze delivers classic hiking for beginners on valley and plateau routes, with longer ridges for improvers. Bike trails and winter ski days fill the same towns. Pair with the Stołowe and Owl Mountains for sandstone labyrinth walks, or continue to the Tatras when you want higher alpine drama.
Season
June–September for hiking and bikes; December–March for snow when it sticks. Open the Book here tab for Karkonosze trail and ski dates.
