The south is drier than El Yunque, and the mountains behind it are cooler than either coast. Ponce is the city. Guánica is dry forest and heat. La Parguera is boats, another bio bay, and diving. Up in Cordillera Central you're in coffee country, Toro Negro and nights that actually cool off.
Dry forest and La Parguera
Ponce & Guánica is hiking in cactus and limestone, not rainforest. Carry water. Shade is thin. La Parguera kayaking and scuba sit on this coast. The bio bay here can look washed out next to a dark night on Vieques. Moon and rain still decide it.
Don't treat the mountains as a viewpoint stop
The cordillera wants a bed in the hills if hiking is the point. A Ponce lunch plus a summit dash in the afternoon is how people get to the trailhead cooked. Open the Book here tab for forest, boat and mountain days. Inventory is thinner than San Juan, so dates matter.
