This is the arrival: SJU, a night in San Juan, then El Yunque or a Fajardo bio-bay kayak while your body is still on mainland time. The region is the city plus the wet east. It isn't Rincón, and it isn't a substitute for sleeping on Vieques. Camuy caves and Loíza sit in the same catchment as day trips.
City first, forest second
San Juan is hotels, Condado water and a painful rush hour. Use it as a base, not as the whole holiday. El Yunque & Fajardo is hiking in the rainforest and Laguna Grande after dark. Some forest gates use timed entry. The bio bay is a kayak on a dark night, not a guaranteed light show.
How it fits the rest of the island
Keep two or three nights here, then move. The west coast wants its own bed. Ferries to Vieques & Culebra leave from Ceiba, which is closer to Fajardo than to Old San Juan. Don't plan a dawn forest hike and a Ceiba ferry on the same morning.
