This longer city ride focuses on the parts of London that reveal how the city actually works, past and present. Following the Thames and cutting through historic districts, the tour combines major landmarks with lesser-known sites and a stop at one of London’s most famous food markets.
The tour begins with bike fitting and a safety briefing before heading straight to the River Thames. Riding along the river gives continuous views of central London’s riverside landmarks, including London Eye and St Paul’s Cathedral, while your guide explains how trade, disease, fire, and war shaped the city’s development.
From the river, the route weaves into older streets and quieter corners that are often missed on first visits. You’ll pass sites such as Winchester Palace and St Dunstan-in-the-East, stopping to hear stories about medieval London, plagues, and the city’s constant rebuilding. The tour continues past Shakespeare’s Globe, linking literary history with the working riverfront.
Midway through the tour, there’s time to stop at Borough Market for lunch or snacks (not included). The final section crosses Tower Bridge and explores the area around the Tower of London before finishing with a ride through the covered streets of Leadenhall Market.
The meeting point near Waterloo places you immediately on the South Bank, avoiding long road sections and giving fast access to riverside paths. This allows the tour to stay focused on the Thames corridor and historic City of London.
The route combines traffic-managed streets, cycle lanes, and slower areas, but does include busier sections, which is why confident cycling ability is important.
All participants must be able to ride a bicycle confidently in an urban environment. This tour is longer and more complex than other routes, so children are not recommended unless they are strong, experienced riders.
Attachments such as tag-a-longs and trailers are not permitted for group safety. Riders under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. E-bike upgrades are available for riders aged 14 and over. A government-issued photo ID is required as a deposit, and a credit card must be kept on file.
This tour goes beyond headline landmarks to explain how London developed as a working city. By following the river and cutting through historic districts, you see how commerce, culture, and everyday life connect.
With a longer duration and smaller groups, the guide has time to add depth and context, making this a good option if you want more than a surface-level overview.
