Step back in time on this guided e-bike tour that combines ancient history with effortless cycling. A private shuttle will take you from Circus Maximus to the Catacombs, so you can avoid the stress of city traffic and public transport. After exploring these underground tombs, you will ride along the Via Appia Antica, passing aqueducts, tombs, and scenic fields, all while learning fascinating stories from your expert guide. Private and small group options make this an intimate, immersive adventure through Rome’s past.
The experience begins with a private shuttle from Circus Maximus, ensuring a smooth start to your journey. Upon arrival at the Catacombs, the guide will lead you through underground corridors and chambers, sharing stories of ancient burial rituals, early Christian history, and secret passages unknown to most visitors. This is a rare opportunity to explore one of Rome’s most fascinating historical sites without the crowds or logistical stress.
Once you hop on your e-bike, the tour continues along the Via Appia Antica, a road that has existed since Roman times. You will pedal past monumental tombs, centuries-old aqueducts, and golden fields, stopping at scenic points for photos and stories from your guide. The route weaves through Aqueduct Park, Tor Fiscale Park, and Caffarella Park, combining quiet paths, natural beauty, and Roman history. The e-bike’s assistance allows you to enjoy the ride comfortably while taking in the views, making the tour accessible to riders of different fitness levels.
Towards the end of the tour, you will return to the rental point by e-bike and board the shuttle back to Circus Maximus. This ensures a stress-free finish and lets you fully appreciate the experience without worrying about navigating traffic. Private tour options provide an even more tailored experience, with the guide focusing on your interests and allowing you to linger at favourite stops.
Viale Aventino serves as the central meeting point, easily accessible from most areas of Rome. The shuttle takes you directly to the gates of the Appia Antica, allowing you to begin the tour in comfort and with minimal waiting.
The e-bike route covers mostly Roman cobblestones and some dirt tracks, passing through Aqueduct Park, Tor Fiscale Park, and Caffarella Park. Quiet roads and scenic trails ensure a safe ride, while the historic surroundings provide a unique insight into the engineering feats and landscapes that have shaped Rome over centuries.
You must be comfortable riding an e-bike and following the guide’s instructions throughout the tour. Children under 12 can join with extensions, and infants up to 20 kg can ride in child seats. Riders must follow safety instructions at all times.
You should wear comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for cycling and bring water or snacks if needed. For multi-day trips, check that your accommodation has secure storage for the e-bike.
Expert guides provide in-depth commentary at each stop, offering insights into the Catacombs, Via Appia Antica, and surrounding parks that go beyond standard tourist information. Guides ensure safety while making the ride engaging and memorable.
Private transfers, small group sizes, and carefully selected routes allow you to focus entirely on the experience. High-quality e-bikes, helmets, and locks give peace of mind while exploring, and seamless logistics make this a smooth, unforgettable tour of Rome’s ancient roads and parks.
Light rain doesn’t affect the running of the tour, so the activity goes ahead as planned. Participants are offered complimentary waterproof ponchos to keep them comfortable throughout, and the guide adjusts the pace if needed to suit the conditions. Many groups enjoy the experience just as much in gentle rain, especially with the extra layer provided.
More severe conditions, such as heavy rain or thunderstorms, mean the tour cannot run safely. If this happens, the session is cancelled and the full amount paid is refunded. Safety is the guiding factor in these decisions, and updates are passed on as early as possible so participants know exactly what to expect.
We welcome a wide range of ages on our e-bike tours, and the equipment provided is matched carefully to each rider. Younger children can join using either a rear baby seat for ages 1–5 (up to 20 kg) or a trailer bike for ages 6–9, both of which are securely attached to an adult’s e-bike. From age 10 onward, children may ride their own e-bike if they have solid independent cycling experience and are at least 140 cm tall, though we generally recommend independent riding from age 11.
There are also a few upper limits to keep everyone safe and comfortable. The maximum recommended age for participants is 75, and the weight limit for any rider or equipment setup is 100 kg. These guidelines help ensure each bike performs as intended and that every participant enjoys a smooth and controlled ride.
Our regular tours operate with a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 8 participants, which keeps each outing comfortable and well-paced. These small-group limits apply to standard daily departures, ensuring riders receive plenty of guidance and support from the team throughout the experience.
For larger parties, the capacity expands significantly. The centre is fully equipped to organise multiple groups at the same time and can handle single bookings far above the usual numbers, with the ability to accommodate up to 80 participants in one coordinated session. This structure allows big groups to enjoy the same quality of service while moving through the route smoothly and safely.
The tour lasts 4.5 hours and covers approximately 17 kilometres. You will visit the Catacombs, cycle along the Via Appia Antica, and pass through Aqueduct Park, Tor Fiscale Park, and Caffarella Park. Most of the route is on Roman cobblestones, with some dirt tracks, offering a mix of historical and natural scenery.
Stops along the route provide opportunities for photos and in-depth stories from the guide. Private tours allow adjustments to pace or focus on areas of interest.
Yes, infants up to 20 kg can ride in child seats, and children under 139 cm can join with extensions. Riders aged 12 and older may cycle independently. Families can enjoy a safe, shared experience guided by an expert.
Breaks along the route make the tour manageable for all ages, and private options provide flexibility for families who want a slower pace.
You must have some cycling experience, especially if using a child seat or extension. Guides provide full instructions and support during the tour and may restrict participation if riding ability or fitness is insufficient to ensure safety.
E-bike assistance helps make the ride easier, even for less experienced cyclists, and carefully chosen paths minimise interaction with busy roads.
