Jose was very friendly and helpful! The bikes he provided were great for the price, and we enjoyed a unique gravel bike adventure in Spain. There were very few other companies offering gravel bike rentals. I would 100% recommend this adventure with Jose to any travelers in Spain looking to…
Excellent day out with super efficient Kieran and Sam. Even a novice like me finally cracked the code to a good kayaking. The caves, guided tour on geological formations punctuated by marshmallow roasting and fossil hunting truly enhanced the overall experience. Would love to do it again. Plus - a…

The cave line and inter-tidal rock of the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark are the setting for this guided safari, with basic strokes coached on calm water before the group reaches a secluded beach. Protected fossils, a foraged marine herb and a beach fire with marshmallows are part of the stop when the tide allows. Seals haul out along this coast, and we watch from the boats rather than crowding them.
Launch from the best sheltered site for the forecast, often Oddicombe, then paddle at an easy pace toward caves, natural arches and remote coves. Stops on the sand are part of the outing when the tide allows, including a look at fossils and a small beach fire. We carry a camera and share images afterwards so hands can stay on the paddle.
Typical starts sit around 10:00 in summer, or 10:30 later in the season, running through to about 12:30 or 13:00. Pack snacks and at least 500 ml of water. In summer, shorts and a sports top work well. In spring and autumn, walking layers or waterproof trousers plus our waterproof-skinned jackets keep the air off.
Oddicombe and neighbouring Babbacombe sit in a sheltered cove with Blue Flag water and an easy sand launch. South-westerly wind is blocked here, so the bay often stays kinder than the more open English Riviera beaches.
Routes may reach Thatcher Rock, Orestone, or quieter inter-tidal pockets when the group wants a longer paddle. If Oddicombe is awkward we move to Meadfoot, Paignton or Brixham and send the pin before you travel.
No previous kayaking is needed. Be happy getting a little wet and able to follow a brief on the sand. Children from 4 can join when they fit a buoyancy aid, and we usually pair them tandem with an adult.
Mention confidence or mobility needs when you request a date. Pack snacks, water and layers for sitting on the beach by the fire. A phone case is useful if you want your own pictures as well as the ones we send.
Guides on this safari talk through the geology and the wildlife as you paddle, not as a lecture on the sand. Time in caves and on a quiet beach, with a fire and marshmallows when the tide and the group allow, is the point of the outing.
Technical clothing is provided, including Reed Chillcheater layers on cooler days, so a full kit bag is not required. The route stays with the slowest boat, which helps mixed families share the same outing.
We confirm the launch when we approve your date. That is usually Oddicombe Beach, Beach Road, Torquay, TQ1 3LB. There is no parking on the sand. Use the cliff railway from Babbacombe Downs or walk the path down.
If we move the group to Meadfoot, Paignton or Brixham, the pin comes in the same message. Please arrive a few minutes early so kit and the brief stay on schedule.
About two and a half to three hours, including kit on the sand, time in caves and a beach stop when the tide allows. Summer starts are often 10:00 to 12:30. Later in the season we often use 10:30 to 13:00.
The exact loop depends on wind, tide and how the group is paddling. We keep time for the fire and fossils rather than racing a long headland.
Seals fish and haul out along this coast, and we watch from the boats. Seabirds nest on the cliffs in spring and early summer. Inter-tidal life shows on the rocks at a beach stop.
Cetaceans visit South Devon, though we never promise a sighting. The guide points things out from a distance so the animals keep their space.
Yes, when the tide and the group allow a stop on a secluded beach. Protected fossils, a foraged marine herb and marshmallows by the fire are part of that stop.
Pack snacks as well. The fire is part of the safari, not a full lunch service, so a sandwich helps if you get hungry before you land.
Four, when the child fits a buoyancy aid. Anyone under 18 paddles with a responsible adult. We usually put younger children in a tandem so an adult shares the boat.
Tell us ages when you request a date. The route stays with the slowest boat, which helps mixed families stay together.
No. The guide coaches a forward stroke and a simple steer on calm water before you head toward caves. First-timers and people who already paddle a little share the same safari.
Say if anyone is nervous so we can pair them in a tandem and keep the first minutes inside the bay.
Usually Oddicombe Beach, Beach Road, Torquay, TQ1 3LB. Walk down to the watersports desk beside the slipway. There is no parking on the sand.
If the forecast favours Meadfoot, Paignton or Brixham we send that pin before you travel. Check your messages the evening before.
A guide, a kayak, paddle, buoyancy aid and technical clothing, plus a beach fire and marshmallows when the stop is possible. Photographs from the trip are sent afterwards.
Bring your own snacks and water. Transport to the launch is not included, and parking near the downs is not part of the outing.
In summer, shorts and a sports top with flip-flops or wet shoes. In spring and autumn, walking layers or waterproof trousers. We add waterproof-skinned thermal jackets with a spray deck and hood when the air is cool.
Sun cream and a hat help on bright days. Pack a towel if you think you might swim at a stop.
We carry a camera and send images afterwards, so you can keep paddling rather than fussing with a phone. You may bring your own camera in a case if you prefer.
We share what we shot of your group after the safari. There is no extra charge for those pictures.
We move the launch or shorten the loop if wind or swell makes caves or a beach stop unsafe. Rain alone does not stop the safari.
We contact you as early as we can if the plan has to change. The fire and fossil stop only happen when the shore is usable.
