Reef exploration offers an opportunity to experience the underwater world of lava reefs, observing a variety of marine life and unique underwater landscapes. Guided by experienced instructors, this session provides an engaging and environmentally conscious way to connect with the marine ecosystem in clear, calm waters.
The session begins at the dive school in Puerto Del Carmen with a comprehensive briefing covering the day's activities and safety procedures. Participants will then take part in a guided pre-freediving stretch routine to prepare the body for the underwater experience. After gearing up in wetsuits and receiving personalised guidance, the group makes a short walk to the nearby ocean launch point.
Once in the water, instructors lead the group through the lava reefs, pointing out diverse marine life including tropical fish and unique lava formations. Attention is given to breathing control, buoyancy, and underwater observation skills while promoting respect for the reef environment. The pace is adapted to the group’s experience level, ensuring everyone enjoys a safe and educational dive.
Sessions take place in the waters just off Puerto Del Carmen, Lanzarote, near the Jardines del Puerto Shopping Centre where the dive school is based. This area features clear, calm waters ideal for freediving and reef exploration, with accessibility that allows quick ocean entry from the shore. The lava reefs in this region present intricate formations that provide a visually rich underwater landscape.
The dive school itself is located at Calle Roque Nublo 2, Planta 01, Local 01, inside the shopping centre, offering a convenient base for meeting, briefing, and changing before and after sessions. This central location allows easy access for participants staying in the surrounding Tías area or elsewhere in Lanzarote.
Participants should have a basic level of swimming ability and feel comfortable in open water environments. No prior freediving experience is necessary, as instruction is tailored to the group’s abilities. A minimum age of 15 applies, and those under 18 require parental consent.
Good general health is recommended to safely engage in breath-hold diving activities. Individuals with respiratory or cardiovascular conditions should seek medical advice before participating. The session is designed to suit a wide range of fitness levels and ages, with instructors providing continuous support and monitoring for safety.
The instructors maintain a low student-to-teacher ratio to provide attentive, personalised coaching and ensure high safety standards throughout the session. Partnering with a well-known equipment brand ensures participants have access to reliable, regularly updated gear that enhances comfort and performance.
Operating from a convenient location just minutes from the ocean allows quick transitions between briefing and water activities, maximising time spent exploring the reef. The team’s extensive experience with freediving and local marine environments helps create an educational and enjoyable session that respects and protects the underwater ecosystem.
It’s best to bring swimwear, a towel, and comfortable clothing to change into after the session. Although all necessary freediving equipment is provided, you may want to bring your own snorkel mask or fins if you prefer. It’s also advisable to bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated and some snacks if you’ll need energy before or after the dive.
Make sure to avoid wearing jewellery or anything that could be lost or damaged in the water. Sun protection such as sunscreen and a hat for before and after the session is recommended, especially given Lanzarote’s sunny climate. If you tend to get cold, consider a thermal layer for after the dive, as you will be out of the water once the session finishes.
No previous freediving or scuba experience is necessary for this session. The instructors will guide you throughout, starting with a briefing and stretching to prepare your body. Basic swimming skills and comfort in open water are recommended, as you’ll be in the ocean exploring the reef. The pace of the session is adapted to the group’s ability to ensure everyone can participate safely and enjoyably.
If you’re new to open water swimming, the team will support you with safety measures and close supervision during the session. The small instructor-to-student ratio allows for personalised attention and extra guidance if needed. This makes the experience suitable for a wide range of skill levels and ages.
Yes, all equipment including wetsuits, masks, fins, snorkels, and weight belts are provided for the session. The gear is sourced from a trusted manufacturer and renewed frequently to maintain high safety and comfort standards. This means you won’t need to worry about bringing your own specialised freediving equipment.
The instructors carefully check and maintain all equipment to ensure it’s in excellent condition for every session. If you have specific requirements or preferences regarding gear, it’s recommended to inform the team in advance so they can accommodate you as best as possible.
Safety is a top priority throughout the session. The instructor-to-student ratio is kept low to ensure close supervision and individual support for every participant. All instructors are experienced professionals trained in freediving safety and first aid.
Before entering the water, you’ll receive a detailed safety briefing and instruction on freediving techniques. The session takes place in calm, clear waters close to shore, which minimises risks related to currents or weather. Should any participant feel uncomfortable at any time, the team is on hand to assist or pause the activity as needed.
If you have any respiratory, cardiovascular, or other health concerns, it’s important to consult your doctor before joining the session. Freediving involves breath-hold diving, which can place strain on certain medical conditions.
The team requires participants to be in generally good health to ensure their own safety and that of others. If you have any doubts or are on medication, please disclose this when booking or contacting the organisers so they can advise appropriately.
Yes, you can book on your own, but a minimum of two participants is required for the session to run. If you're the only person booked on your preferred dates, the team will do their best to pair you with another student or offer alternative dates where others are already confirmed.
This approach helps keep sessions effective and safe, particularly for buddy work during pool and open-water training. Solo bookings are common, and most students are open to pairing up, so in most cases, it’s easy to find a match without delay.
