River Thames Mountain Bike or EBike Tour

Not necessarily. The tour follows a flat, traffic-free route along the towpath, so it’s ideal for beginners as well as those who cycle more regularly. Before setting off, your instructor will make sure everyone feels comfortable on their bikes and understands how to use the gears and brakes safely.

The pace is relaxed and sociable, giving you plenty of time to take in the scenery and chat with others. If you’re a little nervous or prefer some extra support, an e-bike upgrade is available, which makes pedalling effortless without taking away from the experience.

All riders are supplied with well-maintained Trek mountain bikes, chosen for their comfort, reliability, and suitability for mixed terrain. These bikes are easy to handle, with smooth gear changes and comfortable seating to ensure an enjoyable two-hour ride.

Electric bikes can also be provided for an additional cost. They offer pedal assistance to make cycling easier, particularly useful for those who’d like to conserve energy or simply enjoy a gentler experience while keeping up with the group.

Yes. The route follows the Thames towpath, which is completely traffic-free for the majority of the ride. You’ll be guided by a qualified mountain bike instructor who is trained in both group management and first aid, ensuring a safe and well-organised outing from start to finish.

There are a few points where you’ll cross minor paths or bridges, but your instructor will give clear directions and keep everyone together. The surfaces are generally flat and well maintained, making it a great route even for those less confident on a bike.

Comfort is key. Lightweight sportswear or active clothing works best, paired with trainers or flat shoes. Avoid jeans or clothing that may restrict movement, and bring a lightweight waterproof jacket in case the weather changes. Layers are useful if it’s cool at the start but warms up later in the ride.

Helmets are included in your booking and must be worn at all times while cycling. You’re welcome to bring your own if you prefer, as long as it meets safety standards. Sunglasses and gloves can also make your ride more comfortable, especially in bright or breezy conditions.

Rides usually continue in light rain or overcast weather, as the towpath is well maintained and remains safe to cycle on. Participants are advised to bring a waterproof jacket and dress appropriately for the conditions. Cycling in light drizzle can actually be quite refreshing and adds to the adventure.

In the event of extreme weather, such as heavy rain, strong winds, or thunderstorms, the session will be rescheduled or a credit offered. Your safety always comes first, and you’ll be contacted as soon as possible if there are any changes to the plan.

Yes, families are welcome, and children aged 14 and over can take part if accompanied by a parent or guardian. The route is calm and safe, and instructors ensure the group stays together throughout the ride. It’s a great activity for parents and teenagers to enjoy together.

If your family group includes mixed fitness levels, consider upgrading one or two bikes to electric models so everyone can ride comfortably at the same pace. It’s a great way to keep the ride enjoyable for all abilities.

Absolutely. A short break is planned roughly halfway through the session, giving riders time to rest, have a drink, or take photos. The Thames towpath offers plenty of beautiful viewpoints and historic spots, so there are natural places to pause along the route.

Your instructor will adjust the stops based on group preference and weather conditions. If you’d like to grab a quick refreshment, there are cafés near Kingston where the group can take a short detour if time allows.
