Zipline routes through the Sarapiquí rainforest are paired with a guided horseback ride through tropical terrain, forming a day that alternates between elevated views and ground-level exploration. Both activities take place within a protected natural setting where forest, rivers and wildlife corridors shape the landscape.
Travel begins with private pickup in San Jose, followed by a drive through mountain roads and sections of dense rainforest within the central volcanic region. Arrival at the activity base includes a full briefing and equipment fitting before heading into the canopy course. The zipline circuit takes you between forest platforms, finishing with a long cable crossing above a river canyon, offering wide views across the surrounding greenery.
Once the canopy experience is complete, attention shifts to horseback riding along forest tracks guided by local riders. The pace here is slower and more grounded, following natural trails through jungle surroundings and open patches of vegetation. After both activities, lunch is served before the return journey begins back towards San Jose.
Sarapiquí lies within Costa Rica’s northern rainforest belt, an area shaped by volcanic formations, heavy rainfall and fast-growing tropical vegetation. The route from San Jose passes through protected national park sections known for steep terrain and dense forest cover.
The activity setting sits close to river systems and rainforest corridors where biodiversity is especially rich. Trails and canopy lines are built into the natural environment, allowing both activities to take place within the same ecological zone.
No prior experience is needed for either activity as full instruction is provided before starting. All safety equipment and guidance are included from the beginning of each section.
A reasonable level of general fitness is helpful due to walking between platforms and controlling a horse on uneven terrain. Comfort with heights and outdoor environments is also recommended.
Guides leading these experiences are trained in both safety management and rainforest interpretation, ensuring each activity is supported with clear instruction and local knowledge. The focus is on combining active adventure with understanding of the surrounding environment.
Small-group private operation allows for a more controlled flow between activities, avoiding rushed scheduling and large crowds. There is also a strong emphasis on responsible tourism practices that support conservation areas and local communities within the Sarapiquí region.
No experience is required for either the zipline or horseback riding sections. Both begin with full instruction and safety guidance from trained staff.
Support is provided throughout each activity to ensure comfort and confidence. The experience is designed to be accessible for beginners.
The canopy course moves through a series of forest platforms connected by multiple cables. Each section varies in length and height, ending with a longer line across a river canyon.
Guides assist at every platform and manage safety equipment throughout. The system is designed for controlled movement through the treetops.
The ride follows natural forest paths guided by experienced local riders. Horses are matched to participant ability and comfort levels.
The pace is steady and focused on exploring the surrounding jungle environment. Assistance is available throughout the ride.
The activities involve moderate physical effort including walking between platforms and controlling a horse on uneven ground. Most people with average fitness can participate.
Breaks are included between sections. The pace is managed by guides throughout the day.
Comfortable outdoor clothing is best, along with closed shoes suitable for both activities. Long trousers are recommended for horseback riding.
A light waterproof layer is useful in case of rain. A change of clothes is helpful after the tour.
The drive takes around two hours each way through mountainous rainforest regions. The route passes through protected natural areas.
Travel times can vary depending on conditions. The journey is included within the full-day schedule.
