Progress your scuba abilities and refine your diving technique through focused skills sessions both in the pool and open water. This course is designed to improve your control, confidence, and awareness underwater — helping you become a safer, more capable diver in almost any environment.
This course blends pool-based skill refinement with open water experience to help you move beyond the basics and focus on precision diving. In the pool, you’ll work on buoyancy, body positioning, and movement efficiency, allowing for smoother, more controlled diving.
During open water sessions, you’ll put these refined skills into practice, managing buoyancy in natural conditions and learning how to adapt to varying visibility, temperature, and current. Instructors provide detailed, personalised feedback throughout, helping you recognise and correct small adjustments that make a big difference in your comfort and ability.
The course is highly adaptable — whether you’re aiming to prepare for future advanced or technical training or simply want to become a more confident recreational diver, the skills learned here will improve every dive you make.
The pool sessions at Seaton Delaval offer a calm, controlled environment where you can focus on technical skill-building without distraction. Once you’re comfortable, training moves to open water locations such as Capernwray quarry, Ellerton lake, or Beadnell Bay.
Each site provides different conditions to challenge your control and adaptability. Capernwray’s clear, sheltered waters make it ideal for skill practice, while Beadnell Bay’s coastal conditions test your ability to stay composed in more natural environments.
You should already hold an entry-level certification such as Open Water 20. Some previous diving experience is needed to get the most from this course, as the focus is on improving existing skills rather than learning the basics.
Divers must be comfortable underwater and confident with standard scuba equipment setup and use.
With experienced instructors who genuinely focus on your individual improvement, the course is structured to help you master skills you’ll use on every dive. Each session is interactive, practical, and adapted to your pace — ensuring you progress with confidence.
You’ll benefit from both confined and open water environments, gaining a balance of technical precision and real-world application, supported by a friendly, encouraging teaching style.
The course is designed to take your existing scuba skills and make them sharper, smoother, and more natural. You’ll work on buoyancy, movement, awareness, and efficiency to improve your overall comfort underwater.
Even experienced divers find this course useful — it helps eliminate bad habits and builds precision that enhances safety and enjoyment.
The course includes a mix of pool and open water dives, with at least two required in total. The confined sessions focus on technique and control, while the open water dives let you apply those skills in real-world conditions.
Each dive has specific skill targets, and you’ll receive immediate feedback to help you improve after every session.
Yes, equipment hire isn’t included in this course. You can bring your own kit or arrange hire directly with the centre.
Instructors will check that all equipment is properly fitted and suitable for the type of diving you’ll be doing.
You should already be a certified diver with a basic qualification, such as Open Water 20. This ensures you’re familiar with standard scuba procedures and comfortable in the water.
If you’re not sure you’re ready, the team can recommend a refresher or earlier course to build your confidence first.
The course can usually be completed over a weekend, with flexibility to adjust based on weather or diver availability.
Pool sessions are typically completed first, followed by open water dives at one of the nearby sites.
If weather or water conditions aren’t suitable for open water diving, sessions will be rescheduled to a mutually convenient date to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
The team monitors local dive sites carefully to make sure all dives are conducted in the right conditions.
