Wing foiling is an exciting and addictive new watersport that combines the thrill of windsurfing with the sensation of flying over the water. While accessible, wing foiling has a steep learning curve, so proper instruction is essential to ensure you learn quickly, safely, and effectively. Our Learn to Wing Foil Package at Hove Lagoon is designed to teach you the essential skills needed both off foil and on foil, getting you ready to experience the exhilaration of your first flights over the water.
All our courses are run by RYA Wing Foiling Instructors at Hove Lagoon and the sea. This package combines taster sessions, improver lessons, and progression clinics, providing the perfect pathway to mastering wing foiling.
The Learn to Wing Foil Package is divided into two key stages: learning to control the wing and board (off foil) and progressing to flying on the foil (on foil). The combination of taster sessions, improvers courses, and progression clinics ensures you gain the skills needed at every stage.
The Learn to Wing Foil Package is based at Hove Lagoon, a shallow Victorian boating lake that is waist-deep, making it an ideal location for learning wing foiling in a safe and controlled environment. Once you're ready, we move the sessions onto the sea for a more advanced experience. Hove Lagoon's proximity to the beach and its reliable sea breezes provide excellent conditions for both learning and practising.
This course is aimed at complete beginners aged 14+ who can swim. No prior wing foiling experience is necessary.
At Hove Lagoon, we offer a premier learning environment for wing foiling. Our combination of calm, shallow waters and easy access to the sea allows for a smooth transition from beginner lessons to more advanced sea-based sessions. Our RYA-certified instructors are passionate and experienced, ensuring you get personalised coaching in a safe and supportive setting. With a focus on small group sizes and high-quality equipment, you'll be well-prepared to enjoy this thrilling watersport.
Hove Lagoon's facilities are second to none, with comfortable changing rooms, lockers, hot showers, and an on-site café. The lagoon is located within a public park, offering plenty of activities for spectators, including a kids’ play area and skate park.

What not to bring:
No prior wing foiling experience is necessary. The course is designed for complete beginners aged 14+ who can swim. We'll start with the basics and help you progress to getting up on the foil.
The Learn to Wing Foil Package is divided into two main stages:
You'll progress through various lessons, and you may repeat clinics if needed to refine your skills.
The Tow Foil Progression Clinic focuses on getting you onto the foil. You'll learn how to safely set up the foil, launch, and build momentum to take your first flights. This clinic is the final step after you’ve mastered off-foil techniques and is held with a maximum of 2 students for more personalised attention.
Our group sizes are kept small to ensure you get the attention you need. There is a maximum of 4 students per wing foiling course and 2 students per Tow Foiling Clinic, ensuring you receive plenty of one-on-one guidance.
We run sessions in most weather conditions, but for safety reasons, we may cancel or reschedule if the wind is too strong or too weak. If this happens, we'll work with you to reschedule your session at no extra cost.
The course is held at Hove Lagoon, which is an ideal learning environment due to its shallow, controlled waters. Once you're ready, some sessions may take place on the sea, depending on conditions and your progress.
The Learn to Wing Foil Package is flexible and allows you to progress at your own pace. You can complete the lessons over a few days or spread them out. You can also repeat clinics if you feel you need extra practice before moving onto the foil.
At Hove Lagoon, we offer full on-site facilities, including changing rooms, hot showers, lockers, and a café. There's also a public park, kids' play area, and skate park nearby for spectators to enjoy while you’re on the water.
The water in Hove Lagoon is regularly tested by Brighton and Hove City Council and meets all bathing water standards. While harmless algae may sometimes be present, it is carefully managed, and the lagoon is replenished with fresh seawater regularly.
You can book the course online through our website. You can purchase the package by choosing a date/time for your first session. We will get you booked into your follow-on dates after. If you need to reschedule, please contact us with at least 48 hours’ notice, and we’ll help you find a new date.
