With high-quality equipment, small group sizes and expert support, you’ll discover new terrain safely and enjoyably.
Designed for newcomers or anyone wanting a relaxed introduction to winter terrain.
This route teaches the fundamentals of moving safely and efficiently on snow using snowshoes. You will learn how to adjust your pace, manage balance, ascend moderate slopes and use poles for stability. The guide selects routes with gentle gradients and wide terrain so you can gain confidence while enjoying open vistas and quiet winter landscapes.
Along the way, you’ll explore natural features of the Partacua or Portalet area, often travelling through forest, open plateaus and sheltered snowfields. Beginners will appreciate the steady rhythm and well-structured guidance from the instructor, making this a comfortable introduction to winter hill travel.
A technical step forward for those wanting more challenge, elevation, and winter safety skills.
This progression route is aimed at those who already feel comfortable using snowshoes and want to enhance their understanding of winter terrain. You will learn to handle avalanche transceivers, shovels and probes, using them as part of practical exercises. The guide explains how snow structure, slope angle, aspect and recent weather conditions influence stability.
The terrain will include steeper slopes, longer ascents and more varied snowpack, giving you the chance to apply these skills in a controlled environment. By the end, you will have strengthened your movement efficiency and gained essential awareness for safe winter travel.
A practical, field-based workshop focused on avalanche prevention and rescue skills.
This hands-on winter safety course is designed for anyone wanting a technical foundation in avalanche decision-making and rescue protocols. You will prepare a snow profile, study snow layers, and practise the steps of an effective avalanche rescue, including coordinated use of transceiver, probe and shovel.
Throughout the session, the guide explains how terrain features, wind loading and temperature shifts influence stability. The session is practical, detailed and ideal for those who intend to venture into more advanced winter environments or want to understand the factors behind professional decision-making.
All tours operate in the Tena Valley, a region known for its reliable winter conditions and varied terrain. Beginners routes take place on open slopes and gentle features in the Sierra de la Partacua or Portalet, chosen for predictable snowpack and easy progression. Intermediate and safety-focused routes use steeper ground where snow structure can be analysed effectively and route-choice decisions can be demonstrated in real time.
The valley’s combination of clear views, shaded forests and high plateaus provides an excellent environment for both scenic tours and technical learning.
Beginner routes require no prior experience and suit a wide range of fitness levels. Progression and safety courses require familiarity with winter movement and a willingness to engage with technical content. All participants should bring winter clothing, waterproof layers, gloves, goggles, thermal underwear and sunscreen.
Avalanche equipment is required for progression and safety courses, with rentals available if needed.
Your routes are led by Ana, a highly experienced mountain guide who has spent many years working with the Spanish Association of Mountain Guides. Her deep understanding of the area and her commitment to teaching make these sessions both enjoyable and informative. Whether you choose a gentle introductory route or a technical winter workshop, instruction is clear, supportive and tailored to the group.
Equipment quality is a priority: snowshoes, poles and avalanche tools (when required) are well maintained and suited to the terrain. Small group sizes ensure personalised attention, steady pacing and the ability to adapt routes to conditions on the day. Liability and accident insurance are included for all activities, providing additional assurance.
Beginners should select the 3.5-hour introductory route, designed to teach basic movement and confidence on snow. Those wanting more challenge or education should choose the progression route, which adds avalanche-tool handling and more varied terrain.
The winter safety course is ideal for those seeking deeper technical knowledge, especially if you plan to travel independently in winter conditions.

Snowshoes and poles are provided for the beginner route and available for rental on progression and safety days. Avalanche equipment is required for the latter two options, with rental available for those who do not have their own.
Participants must bring winter clothing, gloves, goggles and appropriate footwear.
Beginner routes involve moderate walking on snow-covered terrain with an achievable pace for most people. Progression routes and safety courses involve longer distances, steeper slopes and technical stops, requiring a higher level of fitness.
Your guide adapts the pace based on group ability and conditions.
Avalanche equipment and rescue techniques can be learned progressively. The progression route introduces the basics, while the full winter safety course provides structured, practical training.
The guide ensures all participants understand each step before moving on.
Wear warm winter layers, waterproof trousers and jacket, gloves, a hat, goggles and sunscreen. Snowshoeing involves steady movement, so breathable layers help regulate temperature.
Footwear should be waterproof and supportive, such as winter boots or sturdy hiking boots.
The maximum group size is eight people per guide to ensure attention, safety and a comfortable pace. Smaller groups allow the guide to tailor the route more precisely to participants.
Private groups can enquire about dedicated sessions.
Yes. Liability and accident insurance are included for all routes and courses. This covers guided activity under standard operating conditions.
Travel or personal equipment insurance is not included.
Yes. Private groups, families or more experienced snowshoers can request custom itineraries. The guide will plan the route according to current snow conditions, fitness levels and desired difficulty.
