From grassroots clubs to organised sporting events, injuries and medical emergencies can occur without warning. This practical one-day course equips learners with the knowledge and confidence to provide first aid in sporting environments, helping them respond effectively when immediate care is needed.
Throughout the course, participants develop a solid understanding of first aid principles within a sports setting. Training begins with scene safety, casualty assessment and the Chain of Survival, before moving on to DRAB and ABCD assessments, barrier protection and recovery position techniques. These foundations help learners understand how to approach emergencies safely and effectively.
A significant part of the day focuses on life-threatening emergencies. You'll receive practical training in adult, child and infant CPR, learn how to use an AED and understand the correct response to heart attacks, drowning incidents and choking emergencies. Hands-on practice helps reinforce key techniques and build confidence in emergency situations.
The course then explores a wide range of injuries and illnesses commonly encountered in sport. Topics include bleeding management, fractures, dislocations, sprains, strains, head injuries, concussion assessment, spinal injuries, burns, eye injuries, chest injuries and environmental conditions such as heat and cold emergencies. Additional modules cover asthma, anaphylaxis, diabetes, epilepsy, shock, fainting and other medical conditions that may affect participants during sporting activities.
Training can take place at sports clubs, workplaces, community facilities or suitable private venues. This flexible approach allows teams, coaches and organisations to arrange professional first aid training at a location that suits their needs.
Sessions are available throughout Buckinghamshire and surrounding areas, including Aylesbury, High Wycombe, Amersham, The Chalfonts, Buckingham, Milton Keynes, Tring, Berkhamsted, Hertford, St. Albans, Oxford, Watford and Northampton. Courses can be arranged for sports clubs, schools, businesses and private groups.
No previous first aid experience is necessary to attend this course. The training is suitable for coaches, volunteers, teachers, sports club staff, parents and anyone involved in sporting activities.
Practical exercises form part of the course, with instructors providing guidance throughout the day. Learners can develop their skills in a supportive environment designed to encourage confidence and participation.
Delivered by experienced frontline medics, the course combines accredited training with practical knowledge gained from years of emergency response work. This helps learners understand not only what actions to take, but why those actions are important.
Rather than relying solely on theory, training focuses heavily on practical application and real-world scenarios. Participants leave with valuable skills that can be used confidently in sporting environments and beyond.
This course is designed for anyone involved in sport or physical activity, including coaches, trainers, teachers, volunteers, club officials and parents. It is suitable for both organised sporting environments and recreational activities.
The content is accessible for beginners while still providing valuable knowledge for those who already hold basic first aid qualifications and wish to expand their understanding of sports-related incidents.
Yes. Concussion awareness is an important part of the programme. Participants learn how to recognise signs and symptoms of concussion, conduct basic memory assessments and understand when a casualty should be removed from play.
The course also explains the importance of monitoring individuals following a head injury and seeking appropriate medical assessment where necessary.
Practical CPR training is included for adults, children and infants. Participants learn the correct techniques, compression rates and how to respond confidently during cardiac emergencies.
AED awareness is also covered, helping learners understand how defibrillators work and how they support the Chain of Survival during cardiac arrest situations.
Training covers many of the injuries commonly encountered in sports environments, including fractures, sprains, strains, dislocations, head injuries, spinal injuries, burns and eye injuries.
Participants also learn how to assess injuries, provide immediate care and determine when professional medical assistance may be required.
Yes. The course covers choking management for both adults and children, including how to recognise the signs of airway obstruction and the actions required to assist the casualty.
Practical instruction helps participants understand the correct sequence of interventions and when emergency services should be contacted.
A wide range of illnesses and medical emergencies are included within the course. Topics include asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, allergic reactions, anaphylaxis and hyperventilation.

Absolutely. The course is ideal for sports clubs, teams, schools and community organisations looking to improve their emergency preparedness.
