Spearfishing sessions provide practical training in underwater hunting, focusing on safety and technique to ensure a confident and responsible experience. These courses range from one to seven days, offering tailored instruction for beginners and intermediate participants, with all equipment supplied. The instruction emphasises shallow water hunting and surface stalking to improve stealth and success rates.
The one-day course covers all the fundamentals needed for safe and effective spearfishing. Participants will begin with an introduction to their equipment, including adjusting weighting and buoyancy for optimal underwater control. A thorough safety briefing is followed by practical training in speargun set up, handling, and targeting, alongside learning how to hunt from the surface. Techniques in ambush, stalking, and maintaining stealth are demonstrated and practiced to enhance success during shallow water hunts. The course also includes identification of local fish species and legal size limits to encourage responsible fishing.
For those looking to advance their skills, the two-day course provides a deeper dive into hunting methods combined with freediving coaching. It is suitable for complete beginners wanting more extensive training or for those with some prior experience aiming to improve their abilities. The additional time allows for more in-water practice, refining techniques such as dive planning, breath control, and improved gun handling under realistic conditions. Longer courses can be arranged on request, offering flexibility depending on your learning goals.
Sessions are based in various fishing spots around the Island, Lanzarote. We can meet at the dive school situated within Jardines del Puerto Shopping Centre, or meet directly at the spearfishing location. The local waters offer a variety of marine life suited to spearfishing, with clear visibility and calm conditions ideal for beginners and intermediate hunters alike.
Lanzarote’s subtropical climate ensures comfortable water temperatures year-round, enhancing the diving experience. The dive school is equipped with modern facilities for briefings, equipment fitting, and stretching routines before each session. This setup ensures participants are well prepared physically and mentally before entering the water.
Participants should have a basic level of swimming ability and be comfortable in open water conditions. The minimum age for sessions is 17, with parental consent required for anyone under 18. No previous spearfishing or freediving experience is necessary, as the courses cover all essential skills from beginner to intermediate levels. There is no upper age limit, with many active participants well into their 60s and 70s. Good health and a reasonable level of fitness will help maximise enjoyment and safety during sessions.
The dive school maintains a strong focus on safety and quality instruction by keeping group sizes small and maintaining a low instructor-to-student ratio of one instructor per three . This ensures personalised attention and allows instructors to adapt training to each individual’s pace and needs. Multiple instructors and assistants are available, enabling the centre to accommodate larger groups without compromising the quality of training or safety standards.
All equipment is supplied by a well-known brand and is regularly updated to guarantee comfort and reliability. The centre’s location in Puerto Del Carmen is supported by modern facilities for preparation and training. The instructors bring extensive experience in both spearfishing and freediving, delivering courses suitable for a wide range of skill levels while prioritising safe and responsible practices. Your spearfishing guild is also a professional safety freediver; your safety is our priority
All necessary spearfishing equipment is provided, including wetsuits, fins, masks, snorkels, and spearguns. The gear is high-quality and renewed regularly to ensure safety, comfort, and reliability throughout your session. You won’t need to bring your own equipment unless you prefer to use personal items like masks or fins.
The wetsuits supplied are designed for the local water temperatures, and all equipment is carefully maintained and cleaned after every use. This means you can focus fully on learning and enjoying the experience without worrying about faulty or uncomfortable gear.
No previous spearfishing or freediving experience is required to join the sessions. The experience is designed for beginners and intermediates, covering all essential skills, safety practices, and techniques from the ground up. Beginners will be introduced to the basics such as equipment use, safety, and surface stalking.
Intermediate participants will benefit from additional coaching on advanced hunting techniques and freediving skills, improving their effectiveness underwater. The instructors tailor the sessions to your level, so you get the most from your time whether it’s your first try or you want to develop further.
Safety is the top priority throughout every session. Before entering the water, you will receive a comprehensive safety briefing covering dive planning, buddy systems, emergency procedures, and safe gun handling. The instructor-to-student ratio is kept low to ensure close supervision and personalised support during all activities.
The sessions take place in calm, shallow waters close to the shore, which reduces risks related to currents or deep water. All instructors are experienced professionals who continuously monitor conditions and participant wellbeing to maintain a secure environment.
It’s recommended to bring swimwear, a towel, water, and snacks if needed. While all spearfishing equipment is provided, you may want to bring personal items such as a mask, snorkel, or fins if you have preferred gear. Wearing a rash vest under the wetsuit can add extra comfort for some participants.
Comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for walking to the dive site will be useful, as the ocean is a short walk from the dive school. Don’t forget to bring any necessary paperwork, such as parental consent if you are under 18. A recent medical certificate is needed from your doctor declaring you are fit and healthy, this can be done in your home town or in Lanzarote when you arrive
The sessions require a reasonable level of fitness and swimming ability as you will spend time in open water practising breath control, diving, and swimming with equipment. The training starts with stretching routines and progresses at a pace suited to your skills and fitness level to avoid overexertion.
The water temperatures around Lanzarote are generally mild, but holding your breath and diving repeatedly can still be physically challenging. Instructors provide support and guidance throughout, ensuring you only progress at a comfortable pace and never beyond your limits.
The minimum age for participation is 17, and anyone under 18 must have parental consent to take part. There is no maximum age limit, and many older participants in their 60s and 70s actively enjoy the experience. The sessions are designed to suit a wide range of ages and fitness levels.
The instructors adapt training and expectations to suit each participant, making it accessible for most healthy individuals. If you have any health concerns, it is recommended to consult your doctor before booking.
All sessions start at the dive school located in Puerto Del Carmen, Lanzarote, within Jardines del Puerto Shopping Centre. After a briefing and preparation at the school, there are various fishing spots around the Island where spear fishers can fish legally, with clear water that is ideal for spearfishing training.
This location provides easy access to marine life and safe, shallow waters suitable for learners. The dive school itself has facilities for equipment fitting, changing, and pre-dive briefings, making the experience comfortable and convenient.
Yes, solo bookings are absolutely welcome. While the minimum group size for the session is two people, individuals can still book, and the team will do their best to pair solo participants with others who have booked the same activity. This is a common arrangement and allows everyone to take part without needing to organise a group in advance.
It’s recommended to book in advance so the instructors can coordinate pairings in time for the session. If no other bookings are available for that slot, the team will offer to reschedule your session or provide options to join on a different date.
