Private EcoTour in Yellowstone National Park

This EcoTour is designed for photographers of all skill levels, from beginners to advanced enthusiasts. Whether you’re just learning to use manual settings on your camera or you already have experience but want to refine your skills in the field, the guide will customise the instruction to match your level and goals.

The focus is on helping you get better photographs while also enjoying the adventure of Yellowstone. Technical advice, tips on composition, and field techniques will be offered throughout, making this tour both a learning experience and a chance to capture unique images.

You are encouraged to bring your own DSLR or mirrorless camera, along with any lenses you prefer, such as telephoto for wildlife or wide-angle for landscapes. A tripod is highly recommended, especially for shooting in low light or capturing geothermal features with long exposures.

While basic equipment like spotting scopes may be provided, you should bring any specialised gear you need, including extra batteries, memory cards, and protective cases. The guide can offer advice during the pre-trip consultation to help you prepare your kit for Yellowstone’s conditions.

The tour requires a moderate level of fitness. You should be comfortable walking short distances on uneven, sometimes snowy or muddy terrain, and able to stand outdoors for extended periods. Some locations may require gentle hiking or moving off main trails to reach optimal shooting spots.

If you have mobility concerns, please discuss these before booking. While the tour is not wheelchair accessible, some accommodations for limited mobility may be possible depending on the terrain and conditions.

Yellowstone is home to a diverse range of wildlife including bison, elk, wolves, bears, foxes, eagles, and more. Sightings depend on the season, time of day, and luck, but your guide’s extensive local knowledge will maximise the chances of encountering and photographing key species.

The tour emphasises responsible and ethical wildlife viewing practices, ensuring animals are not disturbed or stressed. Your guide will help you understand animal behaviour and positioning to get safe, respectful shots.

For full-day EcoTours, a picnic lunch will be provided, along with snacks and water bottle refills to keep you energised throughout your adventure. Half-day tours typically include snacks and refreshments but not a full meal.

If you have any dietary restrictions or preferences, it’s important to notify the organisers ahead of time so arrangements can be made accordingly.

Yellowstone’s weather can be unpredictable, ranging from bright sunshine to sudden rain or snow, even outside of winter months. Your guide is experienced in adapting plans to changing weather to make the most of photographic opportunities while keeping you safe.

Proper clothing is essential, including layers, waterproof outerwear, and sturdy footwear. The tour will proceed in most weather conditions, but extreme weather or unsafe conditions may require rescheduling for your safety.
