When an incident happens in a remote location, help may not always be immediately available. This comprehensive outdoor pursuits first aid course provides the knowledge, practical skills and confidence needed to manage emergencies in outdoor environments where professional medical support may be delayed.
Unlike standard first aid courses, this programme focuses on situations where emergency medical services may take longer to reach a casualty. Training begins with the fundamentals of emergency care, including casualty assessment, barrier protection, first aid kit considerations and dealing with incidents in remote locations. Participants learn how to evaluate a situation, prioritise treatment and make informed decisions when professional assistance is not immediately available.
Practical CPR training forms a key part of the course and covers adults, children and infants. You'll learn full CPR procedures, compression-only CPR, CPR handover techniques and AED awareness. Additional modules cover cardiac emergencies such as heart attacks and the actions required to support a casualty until further help arrives.
A large portion of the course focuses on injuries and illnesses that may occur during outdoor activities. Topics include choking, serious bleeding, internal bleeding, fractures, head injuries, spinal injuries, burns, allergies, eye injuries and soft tissue injuries. Environmental conditions such as heat exhaustion, heat stroke, hypothermia and other cold-related emergencies are also covered. Participants will develop an understanding of how to assess and manage casualties in challenging outdoor settings while maintaining their own safety and that of the wider group.
Courses can be delivered at workplaces, outdoor clubs, community venues or suitable private locations. This flexibility allows organisations and groups to arrange training in a convenient setting while benefiting from professional instruction.
Training is available throughout Buckinghamshire and surrounding areas, including Aylesbury, High Wycombe, Amersham, The Chalfonts, Buckingham, Milton Keynes, Tring, Berkhamsted, Hertford, St. Albans, Oxford, Watford and Northampton. Sessions are suitable for outdoor organisations, activity providers, clubs and private groups.
No previous first aid qualification is required to attend this course. It is suitable for outdoor enthusiasts, instructors, leaders, volunteers and anyone responsible for the safety of others during outdoor activities.
Practical participation is encouraged throughout the training. Instructors provide support and guidance at every stage, allowing learners to build confidence regardless of their previous experience.
Drawing upon extensive frontline emergency service experience, instructors deliver practical training that reflects the realities of dealing with incidents outside controlled environments. Learners benefit from real-world insights that help prepare them for challenging situations.
Every session is designed to balance theory with hands-on practice, ensuring participants gain practical skills rather than simply learning procedures from a textbook. The result is training that feels relevant, engaging and applicable to genuine outdoor scenarios.
This course is ideal for people who spend time leading, supervising or participating in outdoor activities. It is particularly useful for outdoor instructors, expedition leaders, youth group volunteers, walkers, cyclists and activity providers.
The content focuses on situations where access to emergency medical care may be delayed, making it highly relevant for those operating in remote or rural environments.
While many first aid courses focus on urban or workplace settings, this programme addresses the additional challenges of outdoor incidents. Participants learn how to manage casualties when professional help may take longer to arrive.
