All centres are vetted for safety and quality. Your adventure is in good hands with adventuro.
Take on a more challenging water adventure as you make your way through mountain streams, rocky channels, and natural pools. This experience is designed for those looking for something more active, combining climbing, scrambling, and water-based obstacles in one session. Private group tours are also available on request, offering a more tailored experience for your group.
Your session begins near Coniston, where you’ll meet your instructor and get fitted with all the necessary safety equipment. After a short briefing, you’ll head towards the ghyll, learning how to move safely through the terrain before entering the water. The first section helps you get used to the environment, with smaller scrambles and gentle features to build confidence.
As you progress further into the route, the challenge increases. You’ll climb up rocky sections, move through flowing water, and navigate natural obstacles that require balance and coordination. The instructor will guide you step by step, offering support where needed and adjusting the route depending on the group’s ability.
The upper section of Church Beck offers more demanding features, including higher jumps into deeper pools, natural slides, and short waterfall climbs. There’s always the option to approach obstacles at your own pace, making it suitable for those who want to push themselves while still feeling supported throughout the experience.
Church Beck is located in Coniston within the Lake District National Park, an area known for its mountainous terrain and network of streams and waterfalls. The upper section of the ghyll provides a more challenging route, with steeper sections and a variety of natural features shaped by flowing water.
The surrounding area includes access to walking trails, traditional villages, and nearby lakes such as Coniston Water. It’s a popular spot for outdoor activities, offering a mix of scenery and varied terrain that works well for more active experiences like ghyll scrambling.
Participants should be aged 14 or over and have a reasonable level of fitness to take part comfortably. This activity involves climbing, scrambling, and moving through water, so a willingness to be active is important.
You should feel confident in a water environment and be prepared for a physically engaging session. While no previous experience is required, being comfortable with uneven terrain and getting fully wet will help you get the most out of the experience.
The centre delivers guided sessions that are tailored to each group, allowing the instructor to adjust the level of challenge depending on ability and confidence. Private group tours are available on request, giving you the option of a more personalised experience for friends, families, or group events.
All instructors are fully qualified and experienced in leading groups through these environments. Safety is always a priority, with high-quality equipment provided and clear guidance throughout, helping you focus on the activity while feeling supported.
This is a more active session compared to standard water activities, involving climbing, scrambling, and moving through flowing water. A reasonable level of fitness will help you get the most out of the experience.
You don’t need to be an athlete, but you should be comfortable with physical movement and uneven terrain. The instructor will support you throughout and adapt where needed.
Light rain usually won’t stop the session, as wet conditions are part of the experience in the Lake District. However, safety is always monitored closely throughout.
If conditions such as high water levels or thunderstorms make it unsafe, the session may be stopped early or adjusted to suit the environment.
You’ll need to wear a swimming costume underneath your wetsuit, along with an old t-shirt if you prefer extra coverage. It’s best to choose clothing you don’t mind getting wet.
An extra layer like shorts or leggings over the wetsuit can help protect it and add comfort during the activity.
Sturdy, closed-toe footwear such as old trainers or walking boots is recommended, as they provide grip on wet rocks and protection for your feet.
Footwear like sandals, crocs, or aqua shoes isn’t suitable, as they don’t offer enough support or grip in this environment.
Bring a towel and a full change of clothes for after the session, as you will be fully wet by the end. Having dry clothes ready will make things more comfortable once you finish.
It’s also a good idea to bring a bag to keep your belongings together while you’re in the water.
Instructors often take photos during the session when it’s safe to do so, allowing you to capture moments from the experience.
These are usually shared afterwards, so you can focus on the activity without needing to bring your own camera.
Yes, private sessions can be arranged on request, making it a good option for groups who want a more personalised experience. This allows the session to be tailored to your group’s pace and preferred level of challenge.
Private bookings are popular for groups such as friends, families, or celebrations, as they give you exclusive time with an instructor and more flexibility throughout the activity.
Dan, the guide was great
We had a fantastic time with Ian. Excellent guidance alongside time to have fun and play about. We had a private group of 8 and everyone remarked on what fun they had had. Would thoroughly recommend and keen to go again!
Dan is a great instructor and we all (adults and teenagers) had a fantastic time. I would thoroughly recommend this scramble for beginners, but there were also more difficult options.
The Ghyll scramble was well led by Dan both from a safety and enjoyment view point. The only down side was there was nowhere private to get changed into and out of our swim gear. Due to embarrassment my 12 year old ended up walking 2 miles in wet gear…
An amazing experience which challenged us all including adults and children. We had a great laugh with our instructor Dan and even on the challenging bits he made us have the belief to give it a go. We all loved it.
Our instructor had all the correct gear all in good working order. We felt safe whilst also having fun. It was a great experience. I would highly recommend..
Thank you for an amazing afternoon paddle boarding on Lake Coniston. Monty did a great job organising all of the kit and explaining what we needed to know. He managed to get two complete novices up on the board and out on the Lake in no time. My daughter Evie…
An excellent experience.. The instructor Dan was brilliant . Very friendly and easy to get along with . Such a beautiful place to paddle board . Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to give it a go . Will be back !! Excellent 👌
