Escape the city and head into the Balkan Range for a full-day mountain biking adventure across paved roads, dirt tracks and scenic countryside routes. Led by a professional mountain biker and private guide, this experience combines challenging riding with remote mountain villages and peaceful valley landscapes.
After departing from Sofia, the experience heads towards the Balkan Range where the cycling route begins around an hour outside the city. Riders follow a mixture of mountain biking trails and quieter paved roads through two picturesque river valleys surrounded by rolling hills, forests and traditional Bulgarian countryside.
The route passes through the remote villages of Ogoya and Yablanitsa, areas known for their slower pace of life and scenic mountain surroundings. Along the way, riders experience a combination of dirt roads, countryside climbs and open valley sections while travelling with a professional guide familiar with the terrain and local area.
Throughout the day, there are opportunities to stop for short breaks, photos and views across the surrounding landscapes. The mix of road cycling and mountain biking terrain keeps the ride varied while remaining suitable for riders with moderate fitness and some cycling experience.
Set within the Balkan mountain region of Bulgaria, this experience explores quieter countryside areas away from the busier tourist routes around Sofia. The valleys and villages along the route offer a combination of mountain scenery, open farmland and peaceful rural roads ideal for long-distance cycling.
Ogoya and Yablanitsa are traditional mountain villages surrounded by forests and rolling hills, giving riders the chance to experience a more local side of Bulgaria while travelling through areas rarely visited by large tour groups.
Participants should feel comfortable cycling for extended periods across mixed terrain including paved roads, gravel sections and dirt tracks. A moderate fitness level is recommended as the route includes longer distances and occasional climbs throughout the day.
Suitable sports clothing and comfortable footwear are advised for the ride. Riders should also bring water, weather-appropriate layers and any personal essentials needed for a full day outdoors.
Carefully planned cycling routes and smaller private experiences allow riders to enjoy Bulgaria’s countryside in a more relaxed and personal way. Combining local knowledge with professional guiding, the experience focuses on scenic riding, flexible pacing and practical support throughout the day.
Experienced mountain bikers lead the tour while handling route planning, logistics and equipment preparation, helping guests focus on the riding itself rather than navigation or organisation.
This tour is best suited to riders with a moderate fitness level and some previous cycling experience. The route covers mixed terrain over a full day, including dirt tracks, paved roads and gradual climbs through the mountain valleys.
While the riding is not highly technical, participants should feel comfortable spending several hours on a bike and managing uneven surfaces during the experience.
The route combines both mountain biking and road cycling terrain, creating a varied riding experience throughout the day. Riders travel across paved countryside roads, gravel sections and dirt trails through river valleys and mountain villages.
This mix of surfaces keeps the ride interesting while also allowing guests to experience different parts of the Balkan Range landscape during the tour.
Yes, full mountain biking equipment and a well-prepared bike are included as part of the experience. Equipment is organised before departure so riders are ready to begin once they arrive at the starting point.
The bikes are selected to suit the mixed terrain covered during the route and are maintained to ensure a comfortable riding experience.
The cycling route begins around one hour from Sofia by vehicle. Transportation is included, allowing guests to travel comfortably from the city towards the mountain region before starting the ride.
This makes the experience accessible for visitors staying in Sofia while still providing access to quieter countryside areas away from the urban environment.
Yes, the guide plans suitable breaks throughout the day depending on the pace of the group and weather conditions. Stops may include scenic viewpoints, village areas or quieter sections of the route.
These breaks allow riders to rest, take photos and enjoy the surrounding landscapes without feeling rushed during the experience.
Yes, this is operated as a private tour, allowing guests to enjoy a more personalised riding experience. The pace and atmosphere can remain flexible without needing to follow the schedule of a larger mixed group.
Private guiding also allows riders to ask questions, stop more frequently and enjoy a more relaxed experience throughout the day.
Comfortable sportswear suitable for outdoor cycling is recommended along with trainers or cycling shoes with good grip. Weather conditions in the mountains can change during the day, so lightweight waterproof layers are useful to bring along.
Sunglasses, sunscreen and a small backpack for personal items can also make the ride more comfortable, particularly during warmer weather.
