In the safe, shallow waters of Hove Lagoon, you'll practise sailing with the foil, improving upwind progress and transitions before moving on to the Tow Foiling Progression Clinic.

The goal of the Wingsurf Foil Improvers Lesson is to build your confidence with the wing and board and prepare you for sailing with the foil. By the end of the session, you’ll be more adept at sailing upwind and making smooth transitions, which are essential skills before attempting to fly on the foil.
All lessons take place at Hove Lagoon, an old Victorian boating lake that provides calm, shallow waters perfect for learning and practising wing foiling. As you progress, you’ll have the opportunity to move to sea-based sessions, which are just a short distance from the lagoon.
This course is aimed at complete beginners aged 14+ who can swim. You should have completed a Wingsurf Taster Session or have basic experience with wing handling and board control.
At Hove Lagoon, we provide an ideal learning environment for wing foiling. Our shallow, waist-deep lagoon allows you to stand up at any time, making it a safe and comfortable setting for beginners. Our RYA-certified instructors are experienced in guiding you through the learning process with a focus on safety and progression.
Hove Lagoon’s location next to the sea allows us to move your learning to more challenging open water conditions when you’re ready. Additionally, our excellent on-site facilities, including a café, changing rooms, and lockers, make your experience enjoyable both on and off the water. For those accompanying you, there’s a nearby beach, kids’ play area, and skate park.

Yes, all the necessary equipment is provided, including the wing, foil, board, wetsuit, helmet, and impact vest. You’ll only need to bring swimwear, a towel, and sunscreen if needed.
Yes, safety is a priority at Hove Lagoon. Our instructors are RYA-certified and will guide you through all safety measures, including how to safely attach the foil and use the equipment. You’ll also be provided with protective gear, including helmets and impact vests.
To ensure a high level of personalised instruction, we keep group sizes small with a maximum of 4 participants per session.
We run sessions in most weather conditions, but for safety reasons, the session may be rescheduled if the wind is too strong or too light. If we need to cancel due to unsuitable weather, we’ll reschedule your lesson at no extra cost.
Yes, the water quality in Hove Lagoon is regularly tested by Brighton and Hove City Council to ensure it meets all bathing water standards. Natural algae growth may occur but is harmless and carefully managed. The lagoon is topped up with fresh seawater to maintain its cleanliness.
