The Tow Foil Progression Clinic is the perfect way to experience the thrill of getting onto a foil for the first time. Using our wakeboard cable system, this course provides a safe, controlled environment where you can focus on mastering the unique sensation of foiling. Towing behind a cable or boat is one of the easiest and most effective ways to learn the basics of foiling, allowing you to feel the freedom and excitement of flying over the water. This clinic is designed to build your confidence and help you progress rapidly.
The Tow Foil Progression Clinic focuses on getting you comfortable with the foil and learning to maintain stability while on it. The clinic is structured to ensure you gain the essential skills in a step-by-step process:
The goal is to get you confidently on the foil. Depending on your previous experience and ability, this may take more than one session, but once you’ve mastered this, the addictive world of foiling opens up to you.
The Tow Foil Progression Clinic takes place at Hove Lagoon, a safe, shallow lagoon perfect for learning to foil. As you progress, we may move sessions to the sea for a more advanced challenge, but the controlled environment of the lagoon is ideal for your first experience on a foil.
This course is suitable for complete beginners. However, if you're learning to Wing Foil, we recommend first completing the Wingsurf Taster and Improvers Courses. Participants should be reasonably fit and flexible, as this session can be physically demanding.
If you have any questions regarding your suitability, please contact us to discuss your fitness and flexibility levels.
At Hove Lagoon, we provide the ideal learning environment for foiling, with calm, flat water that is perfect for practising. Our wakeboard cable system offers a smooth and controlled tow, allowing you to focus on building your skills without worrying about external conditions. Our RYA-certified instructors have years of experience in teaching foiling and will guide you through the process safely.
Hove Lagoon’s shallow, waist-deep waters also provide a great sense of security for beginners. If you fall, you can simply stand up and reset. Once you’re ready to progress, we can move lessons to the nearby sea, where you can experience more dynamic conditions. Our location within a public park also offers plenty of activities for spectators, with a nearby kids’ play area, skate park, and a licensed café.

What to bring:
What not to bring:
No, all equipment is provided. This includes the foil, board, wetsuit, helmet, and impact vest. Just bring your swimwear and a towel, and we’ll take care of the rest!
Foiling does require a reasonable level of fitness and flexibility, as it can be tiring, especially when learning to balance on the foil. If you have any concerns about your suitability, feel free to contact us to discuss your fitness level before booking.
Falling is a normal part of learning to foil! The water at Hove Lagoon is shallow, so you’ll be able to stand up and reset easily. You’ll also be wearing protective gear, including a helmet and impact vest, to minimise any risk of injury.
When learned with proper instruction, foiling is safe. We’ll teach you how to set up and use the equipment safely, as well as how to avoid common mistakes. While minor bumps and bruises are common as you progress, our instructors will ensure you learn in a controlled and safe environment.
Each Tow Foil Progression Clinic has a maximum of 2 participants. This allows for personalised instruction and plenty of time on the foil.
We run the clinic in most weather conditions, but if the wind is too strong or too weak for foiling, we may reschedule for your safety. If the session is cancelled due to weather, we’ll work with you to find another suitable date at no extra cost.
