Step into the role of a lifeguard with our Surf Survivor challenge, where teams tackle fun rescue scenarios on the beach and in shallow water. You’ll learn essential rescue techniques while working together in a friendly competitive environment. Everyone gets a chance to try rescue boards, Baywatch tubes, and paddleboards while building teamwork skills.
The session begins with a safety briefing and an introduction to essential lifeguard techniques. Instructors provide rescue boards, Baywatch-style tubes, and paddleboards for the day. Teams are encouraged to choose their team names and warm up with flag and fitness relay games inspired by Australian lifeguard practices. These early challenges prepare participants for more advanced activities while encouraging coordination and problem-solving.
Once warmed up, participants practice ocean rescues using boards and tubes, working together to save “casualties” in shallow water scenarios. Bodyboarding, surfboard relays, and rescue challenges build confidence in the water and strengthen teamwork. Instructors provide personalised tips and guidance, ensuring each participant gets the most from the session.
The final stage focuses on competition and fun, where groups tackle relay races and practical rescue simulations. Success is measured by teamwork, efficiency, and problem-solving rather than just speed. Free photography captures the day’s highlights, providing a keepsake of your achievements.
Towan Beach, located in Newquay, is a wide sandy bay ideal for water-based group activities. Its gentle incline into the ocean makes it a safe environment for both non-swimmers and those confident in the water. The beach is well-known for hosting watersports and group events, offering a vibrant, sociable atmosphere.
The surrounding area features cafés, shops, and scenic coastal views. Participants can enjoy expansive views of the Atlantic Ocean while taking part in challenges, with lifeguard supervision ensuring a safe and organised environment for all activities.
Participants should be comfortable wearing a wetsuit and being active in shallow water. No previous lifeguard or surf experience is necessary, as all techniques and safety procedures are taught during the session.
A sense of team spirit and willingness to engage in problem-solving exercises will help participants get the most out of the challenges. Swimwear should be worn under the provided wetsuits, and footwear is optional for beach activities.
The centre provides expert instructors who design sessions around safety, fun, and engagement. Their experience in beach lifeguarding and watersports ensures that all activities are both safe and rewarding. Instructors offer guidance and encouragement, adapting challenges to suit all ages and abilities, so everyone can participate confidently.
Facilities include heated changing rooms, secure storage for valuables, hot showers, and on-site amenities to make the experience comfortable. Free photography and optional discounts for local eateries and surf shops provide extra value, making it a memorable and enjoyable day for families, friends, or corporate groups.
Surf Survivor is a beach and shallow-water activity designed to teach lifeguard skills through fun, team-based challenges. Participants work together to complete rescue scenarios, relay races, and surfboard-based exercises, learning teamwork and problem-solving while engaging in friendly competition.
The activity is suitable for participants aged 8 and above. No prior surf or lifeguarding experience is needed, as instructors provide full guidance. Games are adaptable for different fitness levels, so everyone in the group can join in safely.
Each session lasts around two hours, allowing sufficient time for learning skills, practising techniques, and taking part in multiple team challenges. The schedule balances structured coaching with plenty of hands-on activity.
Groups are limited to a maximum of 10 participants per instructor. This ratio ensures everyone receives personal attention, supervision, and support during water and beach challenges. Larger parties can be split into smaller teams for a more manageable experience.
No swimming experience is required to take part. Most activities occur in shallow water, and instructors provide full supervision to ensure all participants feel safe and confident.
For those who prefer to stay on land, games and exercises are adapted so everyone can join. This makes Surf Survivor accessible for groups with varying swimming abilities.
Participants are provided with wetsuits, rescue boards, Baywatch-style rescue tubes, and paddleboards. All equipment is carefully maintained and suitable for beginners as well as more confident participants.
Instructors demonstrate proper techniques and supervise all water-based activities. Participants do not need to bring any special gear other than swimwear underneath their wetsuits and a towel for after the session.
Challenges include ocean rescues with boards and tubes, relay races on rescue paddleboards, bodyboarding, surfboard races, and flag and fitness games used by Aussie lifeguards. Each activity focuses on teamwork, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
The instructor team adapts challenges to suit the group, ensuring inclusivity and safety. Teams are encouraged to compete in a friendly way, fostering engagement without pressure.
Surf Survivor blends fun with light competition. Points are awarded during games, and teams can aim to complete challenges efficiently while enjoying the experience.
Winning is secondary to participation and skill development. The emphasis is on working together, learning lifeguard techniques, and enjoying the day on Towan Beach.
Safety is a top priority. Sessions begin with a full briefing covering all water and beach activities. Instructors closely monitor participants at all times and adjust challenges to the group’s skill level.
All equipment, including rescue boards and tubes, is maintained to high safety standards. Lifeguard-level instructors provide immediate support if needed, and no one is asked to take risks they are uncomfortable with.
