Dive into a dual adventure above and below the waves with the Snorkel Super SUP Safari in Newquay. Paddle along the coastline on a giant inflatable board, then slip beneath the surface to explore the rich marine life of Towan Headland. This activity is perfect for ocean lovers of all ages and experience levels, offering a fun mix of paddling, snorkeling, and coastal exploration.
Your experience begins at the centre, where you’ll be kitted out in a warm Rip Curl wetsuit, buoyancy aid, helmet, and snorkel in heated changing rooms. After a full safety briefing and kit familiarisation, the group will walk down a rock path to one of Newquay’s semi-secret coves, taking in the coastal scenery along the way. The Super SUP awaits, ready to launch you into the crystal-clear waters of Towan Headland.
Once on the water, you’ll learn core skills including launching, landing, paddling, balancing, and making directional changes as a team. Many participants begin kneeling on the board and progress to standing under the guidance of your instructor. The session combines teamwork with playful activities and games, giving everyone a chance to have fun while learning new skills.
Halfway through, the board will be anchored so you can snorkel in the shallow waters, observing the rich marine ecosystem. Spot fish, crabs, seals, starfish, lobsters, and even seahorses within a protected breeding site. Your instructor will guide you safely while providing fascinating insights into the local wildlife and history.
The tour also includes visits to Cribbar Reef, known for its calm reef habitats and diverse marine life, and Dead Man’s Cove, where rock pools and lagoons allow up-close encounters with miniature sea creatures. The route is carefully chosen for maximum enjoyment, combining exploration, education, and plenty of opportunities for fun in the water.
The Snorkel Super SUP Safari takes place around Towan Headland, a rocky peninsula rich in hidden coves, caves, and clear waters. The area is historically significant, with stories of smugglers and pirates adding character to the coastal scenery. Wildlife is abundant here, offering glimpses of seals, seabirds, and reef fish during your paddle.
Nearby, Cribbar Reef provides a fascinating reef habitat to explore, while Dead Man’s Cove is perfect for discovering tidal pools and observing marine life close up. The combination of clear waters, interesting geography, and historical context makes this part of Newquay an ideal location for both paddling and snorkeling.
No prior paddleboarding or snorkeling experience is needed to take part. Instructors provide full guidance and support, ensuring beginners feel confident and safe throughout the session.
Participants should be comfortable in the water and able to swim. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult, and instructors adjust the pace and activities to suit the group.
The centre specialises in water-based activities and prioritises safety, comfort, and enjoyment. Small instructor ratios ensure personal guidance for every participant, and the friendly team makes learning new skills accessible and fun.
Facilities include heated changing rooms, hot showers, secure storage, and high-quality equipment to make your day as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. The combination of expert instruction, immersive coastal exploration, and a focus on marine education sets this activity apart.
Super SUP (Super Stand Up Paddleboarding) in Newquay is riding the wave of popularity as one of the UK’s freshest and rapidly expanding water sports, and it’s proudly part of our thrilling activity lineup at our centre!
We’ve introduced a fleet of grand, inflatable paddleboards that can accommodate groups of up to 8, creating a unique way to explore Newquay’s storied coastline. Setting off from the Gazzle on Fistral Headland, you’ll navigate your craft into hidden smugglers’ caves, traverse natural rapids, and circle around whirlpools, all while mastering the balance and steering of the vessel.
This engaging activity is a hit with participants of all ages and fitness levels, serving not only as an exciting adventure but also as an excellent diving platform and observation deck for peering at the aquatic life beneath the waves.
After getting kitted up at our centre, you and your group will launch the craft from the safety of Towan Beach and navigate it along our craggy coastline, into deep smugglers caves and through the natural whirlpools. The area is steeped in history and heritage.
Having learnt core paddle strokes and skills, you’ll moor up for a variety of hilarious games including SUMO SUP, King of the SUP or Mega SUP races, before navigating ocean swells.
The Gazzle’s caves and craggy coastline are home to an abundance of wildlife, from our native seals that call the coves home to jellyfish under the water’s surface. During your SUP experience, you’ll learn how to identify the flora and fauna of Newquay’s coastal ecosystems and witness them up close from the SUP itself.
All our Instructors are fully qualified Beach and Surf Safety Lifeguards, ISA awarded surf instructors and experienced coasteer leaders. They’ve undertaken extensive First Aid training and we endeavour as an Activity Centre to regularly in-house train our staff so they have experience in all weather and water conditions. Every instructor must have years of personal experience in the water and we also work in close partnership with the RNLI to ensure your safety in and out of the water.
SUP paddling requires a basic level of fitness and it certainly gets the heart pumping, but you don’t have to be an athlete! The beauty is that you can rest if you need a break.
We ask that everybody who takes part in our SUP experiences can swim a minimum of 50 metres. However, you’ll be provided with a buoyancy aid at the start of your session, meaning you always have a floatation aid throughout your SUP experience.
Yes! During the winter you’ll be provided with some extra kit to help keep you warm on colder days – a wetsuit hood, neoprene gloves & neoprene boots!
