It was a brilliant experience! I loved the sauna and the wild swimming. I have never done anything like it before. I would definitely recommend it to others to try!

Ease into a moment of calm with a Finnish-style sauna followed by an invigorating dip in the lake. Set within the scenic grounds of TCR The Hub in Barnard Castle, this experience offers the perfect balance between warmth and wild water. Whether you come for relaxation or recovery, it’s a unique way to unwind and reconnect with nature.
Every session begins with a welcome from the team who will guide you through how the sauna works and what to expect during your time. The wood-fired Finnish-style sauna quickly builds to a comforting heat, offering the ideal space to rest, stretch, and let the day melt away. You’ll be surrounded by soft steam, crackling wood, and the scent of pine from the stove — a truly authentic Nordic touch.
Between rounds in the sauna, you can cool off with a dip in the nearby lake. This cold-water immersion contrasts beautifully with the sauna’s warmth, leaving you feeling refreshed, clear-headed, and energised. Many guests alternate between the heat and the cold several times during the 50-minute session, experiencing the full benefit of this time-honoured wellness practice.
After your session, take a few moments to rest, rehydrate, and warm up with a drink or extra layers. The team ensures everyone leaves feeling revitalised, calm, and grounded — whether you came for muscle recovery, mindfulness, or simply to enjoy something different outdoors.
TCR The Hub is based in Barnard Castle, County Durham, surrounded by rolling countryside and a peaceful lake that perfectly complements the sauna setup. The site has been carefully chosen for its natural setting and easy access, creating a welcoming escape where you can experience outdoor wellbeing in all seasons.
The centre is part of a wider community hub offering outdoor activities, and healthy living experiences. With facilities on-site including parking you can make a day of your visit — pairing your sauna and swim with a scenic walk or lunch in the local market town nearby.
Participants must be at least 16 years old, and anyone under 18 should attend with a responsible adult. No prior experience with sauna or wild swimming is needed, but you should be comfortable around open water and confident in basic swimming ability for safety.
It’s recommended to bring swimwear, 2 towels, warm layers for after your dip, and a warm drink. You’ll be fully briefed on safety before entering the sauna, and it’s important to follow all guidance provided by staff to ensure a safe and enjoyable session.
The centre is dedicated to promoting wellness through natural, sustainable, and accessible outdoor experiences. By blending authentic Finnish sauna traditions with the beauty of the local landscape, they create a unique opportunity for relaxation and connection with nature.
Sessions are run by a friendly, experienced team who prioritise safety, comfort, and inclusivity. Each guest is supported throughout their time to ensure they get the most from the experience, whether they’re seasoned cold-water enthusiasts or trying it for the first time.
