Your session begins lakeside, where you’ll collect your paddleboard, paddle, and buoyancy aid before heading onto the water. After a short safety briefing, you’ll be free to paddle around the calm lake at your own pace, enjoying the sense of freedom that comes with gliding across open water. The lake’s sheltered setting and gentle conditions make it ideal for relaxed paddling and soaking up the natural surroundings.
Whether you’re practising your balance, enjoying some quiet time outdoors, or spending an hour with family or friends, this experience is both refreshing and fun. The lake is framed by green woodland with views of Witton Castle in the distance — a beautiful backdrop that adds to the experience.
When your session ends, you can make the most of the setting by taking a walk around the park or relaxing by the lakeside with a picnic. For a full day out, the nearby café, bar, and fish and chip shop at the castle are just a short stroll away.
Witton Castle Country Park, located in County Durham, is a peaceful countryside retreat surrounded by woodlands, open fields, and water. The activity lake sits behind the castle, just a short walk from the main car park, and provides a safe and scenic spot for paddleboarding.

Participants should be confident in the water and able to swim. Under 18s must have an adult present at the lakeside for supervision, while under 8s can share a board with a parent or guardian.
All essential equipment is included, and wetsuits are available to hire for a small additional fee. You should bring swimwear or light, quick-drying clothing, a towel, and a change of clothes for after your session.
