Quiet stretches of Plymouth Sound come into reach on a private sailing and swimming session designed for small groups. Time on the water is unhurried, with space to swim, relax, and move between locations at a comfortable pace. Each trip is tailored to conditions on the day, keeping the focus on calm travel and quality time afloat.
Departure is from Mount Batten, easing away from shore before settling into the rhythm of the Sound. With sails, oars, and a quiet electric motor available, movement across the water stays smooth and adaptable. Guests can take part in rowing if they wish or simply enjoy the steady progress under sail, with minimal noise allowing wildlife to remain undisturbed.
Conditions and group preferences shape the route, opening up a wide choice of swim locations. Regular favourites include Drake’s Island, Firestone Bay, Barn Pool, Cawsand Bay, Bovisand Cove, and Breakwater Fort, with longer legs sometimes reaching Penlee Point or Rame Head. Each stop allows time to enter the water gradually, float, swim, or stay close to the boat, depending on confidence and energy levels.
Plenty of time remains between swims to warm up, chat, and enjoy changing coastal views. The longer session length supports a relaxed flow rather than rushing between spots, making it well suited to groups wanting a balanced mix of sailing, swimming, and downtime on board.
Mount Batten sits at a natural gateway to Plymouth Sound, offering quick access to sheltered waters as well as more open stretches towards the Rame Peninsula. Routes may pass historic landmarks, working harbours, and quieter coves, all within a short distance of the departure point. This flexibility allows each trip to make the most of the weather and tide while keeping travel time efficient.
No previous sailing experience is required, and swimmers do not need formal open-water experience. Comfort in the water is important, as swimming takes place away from shore. Children under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult, with suitable lifejackets available for young people aged 8–16 years.
Absolutely! Our experienced crew ensures a safe and enjoyable swim suitable for all levels.
Safety is our priority. We monitor weather conditions closely, rescheduling if necessary or offering a full refund.
Generally we run 8years+ however, if a family has infants (below 8) we can include them, but they will need to provide a fitted life jacket for children.
