Set off from Beaumaris Pier and cruise the Menai Strait for a view of the Menai and Britannia Bridges that you simply cannot get from land. Along the way you'll pass Bangor Pier, Plas Newydd and Millionaire's Row, then drop under the bridges and through the Swellies before the faster run home.
The route heads along the Strait and, depending on tide, into Port Penrhyn, then past Bangor Pier, Wales's longest at 1500ft. You'll see Plas Newydd and the houses of Millionaire's Row before the first of the two great bridges comes into view. Completed in 1826, the Menai Bridge is a triumph of civil engineering and is best appreciated from below by boat as you pass underneath the arches.
Your skipper then navigates the Swellies, talking you through the shipwrecks and stranded boats that sit in this stretch of strong current. Further on, Robert Stevenson's Britannia Bridge carries the two stone lions, and a hidden statue of Lord Nelson sits nearby. A couple of islands along the route are home to herons, often seen feeding in the shallows, before the faster run back to Beaumaris Pier after about an hour. Arrive 30 minutes before departure so we can check you in and fit lifejackets.
Beaumaris Pier puts you straight onto the Menai Strait, with Anglesey's coastline on one side and the mainland on the other. From the water you see buildings and islands that stay hidden from the road, including Plas Newydd, the ancestral home of the Marquess of Anglesey.

You do not need any boating experience. Children aged 4 and over are welcome, and children under 4 are not allowed on for safety reasons. Dogs cannot come on the RIB.
You should be happy sitting in an open boat for about an hour, with spray, wind and no shade. Wear warm, waterproof clothing and suitable footwear, and bring suncream if it is bright. If you are not dressed for the conditions you may not be allowed on board.
Our skippers are fully qualified and have been navigating these local waters for many years, including the strong currents of the Swellies. The boats are powerful RIBs with the latest 300hp Mercury engines, coded to category 4 by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.
You'll have a lifejacket and a safety briefing before you leave. Then it is an hour of bridges, landmarks and a lively ride home when your skipper shows you the full power of the RIBs.
Meet at Beaumaris Pier, Beaumaris, LL58 8BS. Head to the kiosk on the pier 30 minutes before departure so we can check you in and fit lifejackets. There is a large car park next to the pier.
In winter, trips occasionally run from Menai Bridge instead. If that applies to your booking, the details will be in your confirmation email.
The usual trip time is 14:00, though times can vary through the year. Check the live calendar for the departure that is actually running on the day you want.
Please arrive 30 minutes before departure so we can check you in at the kiosk on the pier and fit lifejackets before you board.
Endeavour and Discovery can carry up to 12 passengers each. Both boats have twin Mercury V8 300hp engines, giving each boat 600hp.
The boats are coded to category 4 by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, which means they meet strict safety requirements for this kind of coastal trip.
Children aged 4 and over are welcome. Children under 4 are not allowed on for safety reasons.
Anyone on board should be happy sitting in an open boat for about an hour, with spray, wind and no shade. Bring layers and sun protection if it is bright.
These RIB rides are not suitable for dogs. We can look after your dog in our kiosk while you are on the trip, depending on how many staff are working that day.
If you want to bring a dog to the pier, mention it when you request the trip so we can confirm whether kiosk care is available for your date.
Warm and waterproof is best. It is always colder out on the water and it can get very windy, so bring extra layers. Powerboat trips can be wet, so wear warm clothing, trainers or lightweight walking boots, and a waterproof coat. Waterproof trousers, gloves and a hat are useful in winter.
It can get very bright on the water, so sunglasses are a good idea, and suncream if it is sunny. If you are not dressed for the conditions you may not be allowed on board.
A camera is welcome if you want photos of the bridges and the Strait, though you bring it at your own risk. Small bags are fine. Larger items should stay ashore because space on the boat is limited.
We'll provide a lifejacket and a safety briefing before you set off. There is no shade on the boat, so pack suncream for bright days.
Trips start from Beaumaris Pier, Beaumaris, LL58 8BS. Head to the kiosk on the pier, say hello, and we'll get your lifejacket sorted. There is a large car park next to the pier.
Occasionally in winter, trips run from Menai Bridge instead. If that happens, you will get the details in your confirmation.
The Menai Bridge was completed in 1826 and is best understood from the water, looking up as you pass underneath the arches. Robert Stevenson's Britannia Bridge comes later on the route, with the two lions and the hidden statue of Lord Nelson.
Depending on tide you may also go into Port Penrhyn and past Bangor Pier, which is Wales's longest at 1500ft, plus Plas Newydd and the houses of Millionaire's Row.
The Swellies are a stretch of strong current that can create whirlpools, and many boats have come to grief here over the years. Your skipper knows this water and will talk you through the shipwrecks and stranded boats as you go.
It is one of the most interesting parts of the hour, and it is also why an experienced local skipper matters on this route.
Safety comes first. The skippers have been navigating these waters for many years and will only run a trip when conditions are suitable for the RIBs and for the people on board.
If a trip cannot run, we will be in touch as soon as we can to rearrange. Dress for spray and wind even on a fair day, because there is no shade on the boat.

We had a fantastic time! The Skipper was brilliant and carefully tailored the experience to suit all the passengers needs. It was safe, exciting, interesting and a lot of fun. Thank you
The boattrip was amazing! We enjoyed every minute! Jason our captain told us a lot from the wildlife on Puffin Island. We really recommend this trip, it’s worth the money for sure.
Fantastic experience led by friendly, efficient and interesting people.
The instructor/guide was fantastic and very knowledgeable, and we had great fun on the boat
We loved our boat trip, water doughnuts and speeding along 50mph + was great fun. Our skipper was lovely, very knowledgeable and enthusiasm shone through. Want to come back and see the puffins next year... although this was my soul reason to book this trip it really did not disappoint…
The Rib Tour was amazing! Exhilarating ride on the rib combined with fascinating facts about the coastline and the birds on puffin island. Highly recommended, will be booking the bridges tour next.
Exhilarating but also really informative. A great experience all round and highly recommended
Brilliant! Loved when Jason put the RIB into ‘sports mode’. Perfect mix of adventure and information. Beautiful scenery, great morning in the water. Cheers guys.
What a great experience. Our skipper, Jason, was great. Good chat, very knowledgable and really pushed the boat. The boat is an impressive thing which really moves. Great experience! Will be back to do the other tour.
