Welcome to the PSAI DPV Diving for the Open Water Environment course! This course is designed by the Professional Scuba Association International (PSAI) to offer divers like you an exciting opportunity to master the use of a Diver Propulsion Vehicle (DPV) in open water. With a focus on fun and exploration, this course is perfect for those looking to add a new dimension to their diving adventures.
A Diver Propulsion Vehicle (DPV), also known as an underwater scooter, is a device used by scuba divers to increase their range underwater. Basically, explore more while exerting less effort!
The course encompasses a thorough understanding of DPV diving, including its history, practical water skills, DPV system configuration, theory and operation, as well as essential preparation and maintenance. You'll gain a comprehensive insight into safe DPV operation and learn how to maximise your underwater experience.
Your adventure begins with an introduction to the DPV, including its operation and maintenance. Then, across three dives, you'll practise various DPV manoeuvres. We ensure each session is packed with learning and excitement, allowing you to immerse in the experience fully.
Our course takes place in carefully selected open-water environments that are ideal for DPV diving. These locations offer safe and enjoyable conditions, perfect for practising new skills. We mostly dive on the UK Coast or Stoney Cove, Leicestershire. If you have a preferred location, then let us know in the comments section on the booking form.
Participants must be certified Open Water Divers or hold a qualifying entry-level certification. A minimum age of 18 years is required.
At our centre, we pride ourselves on providing a warm, friendly, and professional learning environment. Our instructors are passionate about diving and dedicated to ensuring you have a safe, enjoyable, and unforgettable learning experience. By choosing us, you're not just learning to dive with a DPV – you're joining a community of divers who share your passion for underwater exploration. With a DPV you can go further and see more!
In this course, you'll acquire a range of skills essential for DPV diving. These include understanding DPV system configuration and operation, mastering practical water skills, and learning about DPV preparation and maintenance. You'll also learn to perform various underwater manoeuvres using a DPV, such as safe ascending and descending, avoiding motor entanglements, maintaining buddy contact, and managing battery power effectively.
No prior experience with DPV diving is necessary. However, participants must hold an Open Water Diver certification or a similar entry-level qualification. The course is structured to cater to both beginners and those with some DPV experience, ensuring a comprehensive learning journey.
The course fee includes the use of DPV equipment. Airfills and any additional equipment rentals are the responsibility of the diver.
Safety is our top priority. All dives are conducted under the supervision of certified instructors. We provide a detailed briefing on DPV safety protocols, including emergency procedures. Divers are instructed on how to communicate and navigate effectively underwater to ensure safety throughout the dives.
The course typically spans 1-2 days and is divided into theoretical sessions and practical dives. The first part covers DPV history, theory, and maintenance. The practical segment includes open water dives where you'll practice DPV manoeuvres. Our flexible scheduling allows for a paced and immersive learning experience.
