Step into the world of personalised surfing experiences on the pristine shores of Caithness. Our private surf lessons take place at Dunnet Beach, near Thurso.
We offer private surf coaching for a range of abilities, so your private session will be tailored to you and your surfing goals. Some of the key skills we cover are:
Our private surf lessons, tailored to individual skill levels and goals, are available for both beginners and advanced surfers. These sessions, lasting 2 hours in summer and 1.5 hours from November to March, provide one-on-one coaching with experienced instructors. Each lesson is customized to the participant's abilities, focusing on advanced techniques, safety, and personalised feedback to help reach specific surfing goals.
The pricing for these private lessons is structured as follows: £120 covers a group of one or two people. For each additional person beyond the first two, there is an extra charge of £40 per person. This pricing ensures that whether you're learning solo, as a pair, or in a small group, you receive focused and tailored instruction.
Our primary location, Dunnet Beach, is a picturesque haven for surf enthusiasts, offering pristine waves and an enchanting backdrop. However, if you desire to explore other striking locales like Strathy Beach, Farr Beach, or Durness, we're more than happy to make it happen. Keep in mind that certain locations may involve an additional travel fee. Please kindly let us know when you book if you wish to try an alternative location, so that we can do our best to accommodate.
No matter your prior surfing experience or ability level, our private lessons are custom-tailored to suit your needs. Whether you're looking to enjoy a leisurely ride or elevate your surfing skills, our coaches are here to help you achieve your goals. We can cater to those aged 4+ as our smallest wetsuits are age 4. Please note that if your 4 year-old is particularly small, they may not fit our wetsuits.
Our team consists of seasoned, passionate instructors committed to your safety and success. We offer flexibility in lesson locations to cater to your preferences and needs.
Our all-inclusive equipment ensures you have a comfortable and enjoyable experience and our private lessons are designed to cater to individuals of all ability levels.
We – and any of our previous customers – would say no! The waters here range from 7-13 degrees celsius, which we admit is chilly! However, we provide super warm winter 5/4mm wetsuits (and boots, gloves & hood if required).
We provide all the wetsuits and surfboards – depending on what you select – so all you need to bring is a towel, warm clothes for getting changed into afterwards and some water! We would also recommend arriving with swimming costumes/trunks on as it makes it easier for getting changed.
The youngest we will take is 4 years old! Our smallest wetsuit size is age 4, so if they are particularly small we might not be able to accommodate this. We highly recommend having a private lesson for small children or have a parent come in the water to assist- we want them to have the best experience possible. You can never be too old to give surfing ago!! Please note that a child cannot rent a board on their own, they must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
If it’s a bit windy or rainy this won’t affect us however in the event of extreme wind or huge swell we might need to cancel/postpone. Same goes if it happens to be totally flat. However, we will always try and find a back-up location or offer another activity such as stand up paddle boarding. We will provide a full refund if its not possible – this is very unlikely.
Sadly not yet! We have plans to hopefully make it happen soon though. Our seas are super clean & the salt is great for your hair/skin so no need for a shower anyways!
It helps, but is not essential. Please let us know when you book if your not confident. We always keep people in their standing depth where they are comfortable!
Most of our beginner/ improver lessons are based at Dunnet Beach. This long beach has 3 different car parks so the swell and wind will determine which one is best to meet at. Usually, it's either the main car park next to the sea drift centre or the small middle car park. In the unlikely chance that Dunnet isn't working we have other back up beaches.
