Mousehole’s sheltered harbour gives access to quiet coves, rock gardens and sea caves—ideal for exploring by kayak at a relaxed pace. This private guided tour suits all ability levels and will always run in the safest available location, with an alternative offered if sea conditions are unsuitable at Mousehole.
After meeting your guide at Mousehole harbour, you’ll get kitted out with a wetsuit, buoyancy aid and helmet. A short introduction to paddle technique and safety follows on the slipway, before heading out together in stable sit-on-top kayaks. The route will depend on the tide and conditions but typically includes rocky coves, sea caves and calm stretches where you’ll have time to enjoy the scenery and spot wildlife.
The total session lasts up to three hours including time to change and go through the safety briefing. Actual time on the water is usually around two hours. If the conditions aren’t safe to launch from Mousehole, the session will be moved to a more sheltered nearby location such as Hayle, Mullion or Cadgwith—this will be communicated in advance and is always selected with your safety and comfort in mind.
Mousehole (TR19 6RT) is the base for this session, a small fishing village on Cornwall’s south-west coast. It offers a sheltered launch point with direct access to interesting stretches of coastline suitable for all levels.
If the weather or sea state makes conditions unsuitable at Mousehole, your session will be moved to a nearby location chosen to match the original experience while maintaining safe conditions.
All participants must be able to swim 50 metres unaided. No prior kayaking experience is required, and the session is suitable for complete beginners as well as those with previous paddling experience.
Guides adjust the route and instruction based on group confidence and ability.
The team behind these sessions has over 20 years of experience delivering sea-based activities in Cornwall, with a long-standing reputation for safe, high-quality instruction. Head Coach Chris brings experience as the former Head Coach of the British Surf Team, while Steve—another senior instructor—is a qualified trainer and assessor for both surf coaching and lifeguarding.
All guides are fully qualified in kayak guiding, first aid, and water safety, and are selected for their local knowledge, coaching ability and approachability. This ensures that each private session is safe, well-organised, and tailored to the needs of your group—whether you're trying kayaking for the first time or coming back to improve your technique.
Safety is always the top priority. If sea or weather conditions around Mousehole are unsuitable for kayaking, you'll be offered an alternative location nearby, chosen based on wind direction, swell and tidal flow to ensure the best and safest experience possible.
We’ll give you as much notice as we can and send full directions to the new launch site. You're welcome to discuss options with your guide if you're unsure or have transport limitations.
No previous experience is necessary. These tours are suitable for complete beginners and those with some paddling background. Before heading out, your guide will give a full safety briefing and teach you the basics of paddling, steering, and what to do in different conditions.
You’ll start the session in calm waters and build confidence at your own pace, with support throughout.
The coastline around Mousehole is home to a wide variety of marine life. Depending on the time of year and sea conditions, you could see seals, seabirds, jellyfish, and even dolphins.
The guide will point out wildlife and explain what’s native to the area. Remember that wildlife is never guaranteed, but the location offers excellent chances of sightings.
You’ll usually be kayaking for around 2 hours. Including your safety briefing, getting changed, and returning to the meeting point, the total session time is approximately 3 hours.
This timing can be adapted depending on group pace, weather conditions, or tides. The session is relaxed and allows for time to explore caves, pause at secluded beaches, and enjoy the surroundings without feeling rushed.

Coasterring with Lizard adventure. Great day out. Rory was great with us. Got some sea snacks along the way. Great jumps for all levels. Saw the seals. All in all a great day out
I was impressed that Steve contacted me to ask if my adolescents would like a more adventurous experience and tailored the coasteering to them. They all had a great time - came back exhilarated and exhausted. Thanks also for taking some great photos
We had a fab time with Steve guiding us. A wide range of abilities and Steve enabled us all to meet our challenges and succeed. Highly recommend this as an amazing activity. Thumbs up for Steve. Thank you.
Five stars great fun and engaging and entertaining hosting!
It was great and our guide was very enthusiastic, personable and conscientious. Thankyou!
Absolutely fabulous. Chris(?) the instructor was very knowledgeable and helpful but also definitely a ‘people person’. It was my first ever time and I loved every second of it. Will definitely do again. But wanting to make this a frequent thing for me. Sad to think it may not be…
Adam was a very knowledgeable and seemingly very experienced guide on our sea kayaking adventure from Mullion Cove. We had a great time, paddling alongside seals and in and out of caves and coves.
