What to Expect
This is widely considered the most complete and demanding canyon in Mallorca, offering a mix of technical challenges and awe-inspiring terrain. The route begins near the Pont Natural, bypassing the initial reservoir-fed section, which lacks interest from a canyoning perspective. From here, the approach takes about 1 hour, followed by a warm-up section with jumps, slides, and a series of progressively narrow gorges.
Before entering Sa Fosca’s famous dark section, your guide will prepare the group for 90 minutes of navigating through near-complete darkness. You'll descend through tight rock corridors as narrow as 40cm wide, where daylight is completely blocked by 100m-high walls that meet overhead. Equipped with headlamps and working in close coordination with your guide, this part of the canyon is both disorienting and unforgettable. Once back in daylight, the descent continues to the Entreforc area of Torrent de Pareis, a spectacular natural amphitheatre surrounded by towering cliffs. The final stage involves changing out of your wetsuit and a 1 hour and 45-minute walk back through rugged terrain.
Location
The Gorg Blau – Sa Fosca Ravine lies in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana, close to Escorca and the Lluc Monastery. This mountainous region is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognised for its dramatic landscapes and ancient rock formations shaped by thousands of years of water flow.
Access is via narrow mountain roads with parking arranged near Pont Natural, where the activity begins. The finish point is deep inside the Torrent de Pareis conservation area. Because of the remoteness and full commitment of the route (once you're in, there's no shortcut out), good preparation, weather conditions, and physical condition are crucial.
Prerequisites
This is a demanding route suitable only for experienced canyoners or those with a strong background in technical outdoor sports. It involves sustained effort, multiple rope sections, physical squeezing through confined spaces, and hours of continuous movement in a remote area.
You must be confident using abseiling equipment, swimming through siphons, and staying calm in total darkness. If you're uncertain about your readiness for this challenge, we strongly recommend speaking with the guide in advance to assess whether it's a good fit.
