The PADI Enriched Air Nitrox course is one of the most popular diving specialities in the world. By learning to dive with oxygen-enriched air, you'll be able to extend no-decompression limits on many dives and make the most of your time underwater.
Before practical training begins, you'll complete the PADI eLearning materials covering the theory behind enriched air diving. This includes understanding oxygen percentages, dive planning considerations and how Nitrox differs from standard compressed air.
During the course, you'll learn how to analyse gas cylinders correctly, confirm oxygen content and configure your dive computer for enriched air diving. These are important skills that allow divers to safely take advantage of Nitrox while staying within recommended limits.
The programme also includes two ocean dives where you'll apply your new knowledge in real diving conditions. With guidance from your instructor, you'll become familiar with using Nitrox during recreational dives while exploring Tenerife's underwater landscapes and marine life.
Once certified, you'll be qualified to use breathing gas mixtures containing up to 40% oxygen. Many dive centres around the world offer Nitrox as an option, making this one of the most useful speciality certifications for regular divers.
The course takes place in South Tenerife, where excellent diving conditions and a variety of local dive sites provide an ideal setting for speciality training.
Training dives are selected according to conditions and course requirements, allowing you to focus on developing new skills while enjoying some of the island's most popular underwater locations.
You must hold an Open Water Diver certification or an equivalent entry-level qualification from another recognised diving organisation.
Divers should be comfortable using scuba equipment and medically fit for diving. If you have any concerns regarding your fitness to dive, medical advice may be required before participation.
Nitrox is one of the most widely used speciality certifications in recreational diving, and the instructors focus on teaching practical skills that you'll genuinely use during future dives.
The course combines straightforward theory with hands-on experience, helping divers understand not just how to use Nitrox, but why it has become such a popular choice around the world.
Nitrox, also known as Enriched Air Nitrox (EANx), is a breathing gas that contains a higher percentage of oxygen than standard compressed air.
The most common recreational Nitrox blends contain between 32% and 36% oxygen, compared to approximately 21% oxygen in normal air.
The main benefit of Nitrox is that it can extend no-decompression limits on many dives. This often means divers can spend longer underwater before reaching their limits.
Many divers also choose Nitrox for repetitive diving, particularly on diving holidays where multiple dives are completed over several days.
The course is available to certified Open Water Divers and above.
It is suitable for newly certified divers as well as experienced divers looking to expand their skills and qualifications.
Yes. The course includes PADI eLearning, which covers the principles of enriched air diving and oxygen exposure management.
Completing the theory before arrival helps maximise the time available for practical training and diving.
You'll learn how to analyse gas cylinders, identify oxygen percentages, plan Nitrox dives and safely configure your dive computer.
These skills are essential for safely using enriched air during recreational diving.
Yes. The course includes two ocean dives where you'll apply the knowledge and skills covered during training.
These dives allow you to gain practical experience while becoming familiar with Nitrox procedures.
The PADI Enriched Air Nitrox certification allows divers to use enriched air mixtures containing up to 40% oxygen.
This covers the vast majority of recreational Nitrox diving offered by dive centres worldwide.
