Trying scuba diving for the first time is easy and safe with this experience designed for complete beginners. No prior knowledge is needed, and the session takes place in a heated indoor pool where you can get comfortable with the equipment and basic skills. It’s a great way to see what diving feels like before deciding whether to take a full course.
The session begins with a comprehensive safety briefing covering the essential parts of scuba equipment and key safety procedures. You will learn how to handle the gear on land and understand the basic rules of diving to prepare you for the water. After this, you’ll suit up and enter the heated pool where you’ll practise simple underwater skills like breathing through a regulator, equalising pressure, and communicating with hand signals.
The instructor will guide you throughout the session, helping you adjust to the feeling of weightlessness underwater and ensuring you feel comfortable and safe. You’ll have time to experience moving freely beneath the surface, gaining a real sense of what scuba diving involves. The session concludes with a debrief, answering any questions and outlining how this experience can lead into a full certification course if you wish to continue.
The sessions take place in a heated indoor pool located at Highworth Pool, Swindon, or The Forest School in Wokingham. Both venues provide controlled environments ideal for learning and practising basic scuba skills safely.
These accessible locations are well-equipped to offer a supportive setting for beginners, with all necessary scuba equipment supplied and professional instructors on hand.
Participants must be at least 10 years old and comfortable in the water. A basic level of swimming ability is required to take part safely. You should be in good health and able to complete a medical questionnaire confirming you have no conditions that would prevent you from diving safely. If any medical concerns arise, written clearance from a doctor will be necessary.
The programme is delivered by certified PADI instructors with extensive experience teaching newcomers in a friendly and professional manner. The small group sizes allow for personalised attention, helping you feel confident throughout the session.
The locations chosen offer modern facilities and a welcoming atmosphere to help remove any apprehension about trying scuba diving for the first time. The focus is on making your first experience enjoyable, safe, and informative, setting a solid foundation if you choose to progress to further training.
This is an introductory session designed for people who have never tried scuba diving before. It offers a safe and supervised opportunity to learn the basics of scuba equipment and breathing underwater in a controlled pool environment.
It is not a certification course but gives you practical experience that can count towards a full PADI Open Water Diver course if you choose to continue your training. The session focuses on building confidence and comfort underwater.
No previous experience or qualifications are required to take part. The experience is designed for complete beginners, including those who have never been in scuba gear before or tried diving.
You should be comfortable in the water and able to swim at a basic level to participate safely. The instructors will guide you through every step, ensuring you understand what to do.
The entire experience typically lasts between 1.5 and 2 hours. This includes the safety briefing, equipment familiarisation, pool time for practising skills, and a debrief at the end.
This timing allows for a relaxed pace, so you won’t feel rushed and can fully absorb the instructions and underwater experience.
You’ll learn how to use scuba equipment safely, including the mask, regulator, buoyancy control device, and tank. Breathing through the regulator and equalising ear pressure are key skills taught early on.
You’ll also practise basic underwater communication using hand signals and develop confidence with buoyancy control. These skills help you feel more comfortable and safe underwater.
Sessions are held at heated indoor pools in Swindon (Highworth Pool) and Wokingham (The Forest School). These locations provide controlled and comfortable environments ideal for beginners.
The pools are equipped with all necessary facilities and ensure the water temperature is suitable for learning and practising scuba skills without discomfort.
You should bring swimwear, a towel, and any personal items you might need after the session. It’s also advisable to bring a water bottle and any snacks if you expect to be there for a couple of hours.
All scuba equipment, including wetsuits, masks, regulators, and tanks, is provided as part of the session, so you do not need to bring your own gear.
