Get to grips with the fundamentals of outdoor rock climbing in a friendly and supportive setting. This one-day Mountain Training course is perfect for beginners looking to learn essential climbing skills, whether you're stepping outside for the first time or transitioning from indoor walls. Under expert instruction, you'll develop confidence in movement, rope work, and safety techniques.
The day kicks off with a welcome and introduction to the essential climbing equipment. You'll start by learning how to correctly fit a harness, tie into a rope, and work as a team with a belay partner. Your instructor will guide you through the fundamentals of belaying, ensuring you feel comfortable managing the rope for a climber.
Once you've covered the basics, the focus shifts to movement on rock. You'll practise different techniques to improve balance, foot placement, and efficient climbing. Along the way, there will be plenty of opportunities to build confidence and develop your own style. The session also includes an introduction to using climbing guidebooks, understanding route grading, and learning best practices for outdoor climbing.
With plenty of hands-on experience, you'll have the chance to put your new skills into action throughout the day. By the end of the course, you’ll have a solid foundation to continue climbing outdoors with greater independence.
