Experience our Light Up Sauna & Swim! On Full Moon and Light Up evenings we run a night-time lakeside wood-fired Finnish sauna beside the spring-fed lake, with festoon lights, themed music, hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows at the jetty. Cold dips stay optional, just as they do in the daytime.
As dusk settles, we light the jetty and sauna area while the fire heats the benches. Between sauna rounds you can dip in the lake, warm up with hot chocolate, and toast marshmallows with the group. The extra atmosphere is gentle rather than loud, so the heat and the water stay at the centre of the evening.
Full Moon dates lean into the lunar calendar, and Light Up evenings bring a similar mood on other nights. With the magic of the full moon on those dates, music and lighting stay relaxed so you can enjoy the contrast of heat, cold water and the open air. We cap the session at eight, so the jetty does not feel crowded after dark.
You'll find toilets, changing areas and a cold shower on site at TCR The Hub in Barnard Castle. We sit beside a spring-fed lake, with the sauna looking out over the water from the jetty.
Park at the hub, then walk down to the lake jetty, which is where we meet you before the session starts. The address is TCR Hub, Barnard Castle, DL12 8TD, Durham, United Kingdom.
Sessions are from 16 years old. Anyone aged 16 or 17 must attend with a responsible adult. We ask that you contact your GP if you are in doubt about safely using the sauna or entering open water.
Please bring swimwear, two towels (one to sit on in the sauna), warm layers, and a change of clothes. We do not allow alcohol or smoking in or around the sauna, and only swimwear may be worn in the sauna.
These evenings suit guests who want something a little more festive than a standard timetable slot. You still get the same small-group Finnish sauna, supervised lake access, and on-site changing facilities we use through the rest of the week.
