What to Bring:
What Not to Bring:
Each session lasts approximately 90 minutes. The full Learn to SUP course includes three sessions: Taster, Improver, and Progression Clinic, all designed to give you a comprehensive introduction to SUPing.
No prior experience is needed. This course is designed for complete beginners or those with limited experience. You'll be guided step-by-step, starting with basic techniques, and by the end, you'll be confident enough to paddle out on the sea.
We provide all the necessary equipment, including a paddleboard, wetsuit, paddle, and buoyancy aid. You just need to bring your own swimwear to wear under the wetsuit, a towel, and possibly a change of clothes.
We run sessions in most weather conditions, including rain. The only time we may cancel is if there are high winds or lightning storms, which would make it unsafe to be on the water. If your session is cancelled due to weather, we’ll work with you to reschedule at a convenient time.
Yes, but we do ask that non-swimmers notify us in advance. The water in Hove Lagoon is shallow and safe, and buoyancy aids are provided to ensure your safety throughout the session.
The course is open to anyone aged 14 and over. For children under 14, we have dedicated kids’ sessions that are specifically tailored to younger participants.
You have up to two years from the date of purchase to complete all three sessions. We offer flexibility in scheduling, with courses running from April through October.
Absolutely! SUP is a fun and social activity, and you can book multiple spots if you'd like to learn alongside friends or family. We also offer private group sessions if you prefer a more personalised experience.
At Hove Lagoon, you’ll have access to full facilities, including changing rooms, hot showers, lockers, and a café for post-session refreshments. There is also disabled access.
Yes, the water in Hove Lagoon is regularly tested and treated to ensure a safe environment. It is saltwater, replenished with fresh seawater every few days, and any natural algae growth is harmless. Brighton and Hove City Council manages water quality and takes steps to maintain cleanliness throughout the season.
You’ll be provided with a wetsuit and buoyancy aid, but we recommend wearing comfortable swimwear underneath. Bring a towel for after your session, and if it’s a colder day, it’s a good idea to bring an extra layer for when you’re out of the water.
Booking is easy and can be done directly online through our website. Start by choosing the date you would like to do your first session, and you can book your other sessions in after that. If you can’t find a suitable time, feel free to contact us, and we’ll try to accommodate your schedule.
