This 23-day expedition combines high-altitude trekking, glacier travel, and a non-technical Himalayan peak ascent, linking three of the Everest region’s most iconic routes. The journey moves through the Gokyo Valley and lakes, crosses the Cho La Pass, reaches Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar, and culminates with a guided ascent of Island Peak (6,189 m).
The itinerary is deliberately extended to support acclimatisation, weather flexibility, and recovery between major objectives. While the climbing element is accessible to fit trekkers with good preparation, this is a physically demanding expedition that requires commitment, resilience, and comfort at altitude.
The route begins with classic Everest trekking to Namche Bazaar before diverting into the quieter Gokyo Valley. You ascend Gokyo Ri for one of the widest Himalayan panoramas, then cross the Cho La Pass to join the Everest Base Camp trail. After reaching Everest Base Camp and climbing Kala Patthar, the route continues east into the Imja Valley for Island Peak preparation and ascent.
Extra days are built in for acclimatisation, technical training, and a reserve summit day. The final section descends through Tengboche and the Dudh Koshi valley before returning to Kathmandu, finishing with cultural exploration in the city.
This expedition takes place entirely within Nepal’s Everest region, beginning with flights to Lukla and traversing Sagarmatha National Park. The route links the Gokyo Valley, Cho La Pass, Everest Base Camp, and the Imja Valley, offering a full circuit of the central Khumbu.
Island Peak sits between Ama Dablam and Lhotse above the Chukung Glacier, making it one of the most accessible trekking peaks with genuinely high-alpine surroundings.
You must be very fit, comfortable with long trekking days at altitude, and prepared for cold, remote conditions. Previous multi-day trekking experience above 4,000 m is strongly recommended.
While Island Peak does not require advanced mountaineering background, you will use ropes, crampons, and a harness. Training is provided at base camp, but confidence on steep snow and ice is important. Comprehensive insurance including high-altitude helicopter evacuation is mandatory.
This itinerary links all major highlights of the Khumbu region into one structured expedition, with conservative acclimatisation and built-in contingency. The route choice avoids repetition where possible and balances trekking and climbing objectives.
Experienced local guides, porters, and climbing support manage logistics throughout, allowing you to focus on pacing, recovery, and summit preparation. The extended duration and reserve day significantly improve safety and summit chances without rushing any stage.
