This is an ideal opportunity for fell walkers looking to take their outdoor adventures to the next level. With expert guidance and the security of harnesses and ropes, you will gain the confidence to traverse more exposed terrain on the beautiful ridges and mountains of the Lake District. The day is designed to introduce you to the world of scrambling, with the focus on personal comfort and safety as you push your boundaries.
Your day will start at a comfortable pace, allowing the instructor to gauge your experience and confidence level. As you progress, the route will be tailored to your ability, gradually introducing more exposed terrain as you build trust in both yourself and the equipment. The Langdale Valley & surrounding areas provide an excellent environment for beginners, offering a variety of terrain from easier sections to more challenging rock faces that will give you the excitement of scrambling while ensuring your safety.
Throughout the day, your instructor will provide expert tuition on the use of ropes and harnesses, teaching you the basics of securing yourself and others on rocky terrain. You will also develop your decision-making skills, learning to assess the mountain environment and understand the best routes to take. The instructor’s in-depth knowledge of the area will ensure that the challenges faced are tailored to your personal level of skill and comfort, making for a fun and fulfilling experience.
The Langdale Valley in the Lake District is renowned for its beauty and variety of terrain, making it the perfect location for scrambling.
Known for its impressive ridges and amazing views, this area offers the ideal environment to introduce you to exposed terrain while keeping you safe.
This session is suitable for fell walkers who are comfortable with hiking in mountainous terrain and wish to step into more exposed areas.
A reasonable level of fitness and experience with hillwalking is recommended, but no prior scrambling experience is necessary. The session is tailored to meet the ability of each individual, ensuring that the challenges presented are appropriate.
Founder Ed brings over 30 years of personal climbing experience, having honed his skills across the UK’s most challenging terrains. His expertise includes managing climbing academies and his qualifications as a Mountaineering Instructor and Development Coach. His comprehensive knowledge of the Lake District ensures you’ll receive the best advice and route selection for your skill level.
With a passion for mountain sports and an approachable, hands-on teaching style, Ed tailors each session to provide the maximum amount of enjoyment and safety. Whether you're an experienced hill walker or new to scrambling, you’ll benefit from his professional and personalised approach to your development.
Requests to reschedule must be sent at least 24 hours before the course.
Availability is not guaranteed, especially during peak summer periods, but we will try to accommodate your request.
Please note that rescheduling is permitted only once. If you do not attend on the rescheduled date, you will not be eligible for a refund.
Courses are planned with weather flexibility in mind, as mountain conditions can vary. Be prepared for wet, windy, or colder conditions.
We may change locations to nearby areas based on forecasts. For instance, a course set for the Lake District might be relocated from Langdale to Duddon Valley (under 30 minutes away) if it offers better conditions.
If no venue is suitable due to the weather, we’ll cancel and offer new dates or a 100% refund.

You will need to bring appropriate outdoor clothing, including a waterproof jacket, sturdy walking boots, and warm layers.
A small rucksack with water, snacks, and any personal items is also recommended.
Although all technical gear (harnesses, ropes, etc.) will be provided, make sure you have your personal hiking gear for comfort.
No prior scrambling experience is necessary. This session is designed for fell walkers who are comfortable hiking on hills and are looking to progress into more exposed terrain.
The instructor will tailor the day’s activities to your experience and comfort level, so you’ll be guided through every step.
The session is moderately physically demanding, requiring a good level of fitness for hill walking.
However, the instructor will adjust the difficulty of the terrain to suit your capabilities, ensuring the experience is both challenging and enjoyable.
You will need to be able to hike for several hours, sometimes on steep or rocky ground, but no climbing or scrambling experience is needed.
