Designed for competent trad climbers ready to elevate their self-reliance, this course delivers essential skills to handle emergencies confidently. Participants will acquire techniques for a range of rescue scenarios, gaining valuable practical knowledge to tackle real-world challenges on the crag.
The course begins with an exploration of essential rescue tools and techniques to manage emergencies and unexpected challenges. This toolkit covers essential methods, such as rope manipulation, which provides a foundation for advanced skills. From here, the training introduces a series of practical drills that are designed to develop confidence in executing these techniques under various conditions.
Over two days, participants will practise specific scenarios that include abseiling and ascending ropes, hoisting a second through a difficult section, managing damaged rope segments, and executing a system escape to enable a full rescue. The indoor portion, held at either KendalWall or PrestonWall, offers a controlled environment for the initial drills, while the outdoor day at a Lancashire crag brings these skills to a realistic climbing setting. This combination ensures both familiarity and adaptability with each technique.
This course is held over two days in both indoor and outdoor settings, each chosen to maximise learning opportunities.
Day one takes place at either KendalWall or PrestonWall, where the indoor environment provides a structured space for focused skill-building. Day two is at a natural crag in Lancashire, where participants can apply these techniques in a realistic outdoor climbing setting, allowing for a well-rounded experience.
Participants should have a solid background in trad climbing, including knowledge of placing trad gear and building anchors with slings or ropes.
Confidence in leading trad climbs is essential, as this course involves advanced techniques that build on foundational climbing skills. A reasonable level of fitness is required, along with comfort working at heights.
Participants should be aware when booking that this is an Open Course. If you would like to book both spaces there is a significant discount offered on the second space. However if only space is booked you may be joined by another adult participant.
At our centre, commitment to our clients is at the heart of everything we do. We guarantee that once booked, your course will run, whether fully booked or with a single participant, so there’s no risk of last-minute cancellations or disappointment.
With a cap of two participants, each climber enjoys personalised, hands-on instruction tailored to their specific needs. The blend of indoor and outdoor settings adds both comfort and realism, creating an ideal environment for mastering these essential self-rescue skills.
Requests to reschedule must be sent at least 24 hours before the course.
Availability is not guaranteed, especially during peak summer periods, but we will try to accommodate your request.
Please note that rescheduling is permitted only once. If you do not attend on the rescheduled date, you will not be eligible for a refund.
Courses are planned with weather flexibility in mind, as mountain conditions can vary. Be prepared for wet, windy, or colder conditions.
We may change locations to nearby areas based on forecasts. For instance, a course set for the Lake District might be relocated from Langdale to Duddon Valley (under 30 minutes away) if it offers better conditions.
If no venue is suitable due to the weather, we’ll cancel and offer new dates or a 100% refund.
Under-18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian throughout the activity.
For children aged 17 and below, please contact us via the adventuro chat below before booking to confirm suitability for your planned activity.
