Work together to design, build and race your own floating raft during this fun-filled team activity in Newquay Harbour. Combining problem solving, teamwork and plenty of time on the water, raft building is a great option for families, schools, friends and group events looking for something active and memorable by the coast.
The session begins at the harbour base with introductions, safety briefings and equipment fitting before heading onto the beach area for the first set of team challenges. Participants are divided into teams where they must work together to complete tasks and earn the materials needed to build their raft. Depending on the group size and session style, teams may compete directly against each other or collaborate to create one larger raft.
Once enough materials have been collected, teams move onto the construction stage where instructors guide participants through raft design, assembly and stability planning. The challenge is to create a raft capable of floating and carrying the team successfully across the water without falling apart. Communication, teamwork and problem solving all become important as the build takes shape.
After construction, the rafts are launched into the sheltered harbour water for the final test. Depending on conditions and group size, teams may take part in races, timed challenges or simply attempt to keep their raft afloat while paddling around the course. Sessions often include plenty of splashing, laughs and unexpected raft failures before returning to shore for a debrief, showers and changing facilities.
Operating from Newquay Harbour provides a safe and sheltered environment ideal for group water activities and raft building challenges. The calm harbour water allows teams to test their creations without strong surf or difficult launch conditions.
The surrounding harbour area also offers plenty of space for beach-based construction, team games and racing activities while remaining close to changing facilities and the main training base.
No previous watersports or raft building experience is required before joining the session. Participants simply need enthusiasm, teamwork and a willingness to get involved with the challenge activities.
Private sessions are available for groups wanting a more personalised experience or customised team-building format.
Using years of experience delivering watersports and group adventure activities, the instructor team creates raft building sessions that balance teamwork, competition and fun within a relaxed coastal environment. Activities can be adapted for different group types, ages and challenge levels depending on the session goals.
Mel helps groups organise suitable session formats before arrival, while the wider team keeps activities engaging and accessible for both children and adults. Operating directly from Newquay Harbour also provides excellent facilities and easy access to calm water for the final raft challenges.
