Designed for groups wanting more than just a paddleboarding lesson, these Monster SUP safari sessions combine teamwork, coastal exploration and calm water paddling aboard a giant shared SUP board. Starting in the sheltered harbour before heading along the coastline, the experience mixes skill-building with plenty of fun out on the water.
The session begins at the harbour base where participants meet the instructors, receive a safety briefing and get fitted with winter wetsuits, buoyancy aids, helmets and paddles. Once everyone is ready, the group heads down to the beach for warm-up exercises and paddle drills before stepping onto the 8-man Monster SUP.
Starting within the sheltered waters of Newquay Harbour, the instructors guide the group through the basics of balance, paddling and steering together as a crew. The large shared board creates a relaxed atmosphere from the start, with teamwork and communication becoming part of the fun as everyone learns to paddle in sync. Once confidence builds, the session moves further along the coastline where the group explores hidden sections of the Cornish coast, passing rocky inlets, caves and quieter areas often missed from land.
Along the route, guides share local knowledge about the coastline, wildlife and sea conditions while keeping the pace suitable for beginners and mixed abilities. There is plenty of time for photos, games and stopping to take in the surroundings before paddling back towards the harbour. Private sessions allow families and groups to enjoy a more personalised experience with younger participants from 5 years old able to join. Returning to shore, the instructors finish with a debrief before everyone heads back to base for showers and changing facilities.
Launching from Newquay Harbour gives direct access to calm sheltered water ideal for learning paddleboarding skills before progressing further along the coast. The harbour’s protected conditions help beginners feel comfortable while still allowing quick access to more scenic stretches of coastline nearby.
Beyond the harbour entrance, the coastline becomes more dramatic with sea caves, rock formations and open water views creating a memorable route for the safari. Exploring this area aboard a Monster SUP gives a completely different perspective compared to walking the cliffs above.
No previous paddleboarding experience is needed to join the safari. The session is designed for beginners and mixed ability groups, with instructors teaching all paddling techniques and safety procedures before heading out along the coast.
Participants aged 8 to 11 must be accompanied by an adult during group sessions. Private safari trips are available for groups of four or more and can accommodate younger participants aged 5 and above.
Combining years of paddleboarding and coastal guiding experience, the team has created a session that focuses equally on exploration, progression and enjoyment. The large 8-man Monster SUP provides a stable platform for beginners while creating a social atmosphere throughout the trip.
Mel brings extensive experience in watersports and coastal activities, helping visitors choose the right session while ensuring groups feel welcome and supported from start to finish. Operating directly from the harbour also allows quick access to both calm teaching water and scenic coastal routes.
A Monster SUP safari is a guided coastal paddleboarding tour using a large shared stand up paddleboard designed for groups to paddle together. The session combines beginner-friendly paddleboarding instruction with coastal exploration along the shoreline.
Rather than focusing only on technique, the safari includes time exploring caves, rocky sections and hidden parts of the coast while paddling as a team.
No previous experience is required. The session begins in sheltered water where instructors teach the basics of balance, paddling and steering before the group heads further along the coastline.
The large board is designed to feel more stable than a standard SUP, making it ideal for first-time paddlers and mixed ability groups.
The Monster SUP used during the safari is an 8-man board designed specifically for group paddling experiences. Everyone paddles together while the instructor helps guide and control the session.
Working as a team becomes part of the fun, especially when learning how to steer and paddle in sync.
Depending on sea conditions and tides, the safari may explore areas close to sea caves, rocky inlets and hidden sections of coastline along the route. Guides carefully assess conditions before approaching these features.
Some days allow for more coastal exploration than others, so each session can feel slightly different.
Group sessions are suitable for children aged 8 and above, with participants aged 8 to 11 requiring an accompanying adult. The calm harbour start helps younger paddlers gain confidence before heading further along the coast.
Private sessions are available for families with children aged 5 and above, allowing the instructor to tailor the pace and route around the group.
Instructors monitor the weather, tides and swell conditions throughout the day. If the open coastline becomes unsuitable, the session may stay closer to the sheltered harbour while still including games and exploration where possible.
Safety always remains the priority while making sure participants still enjoy time on the water.
Participants should wear swimwear underneath the wetsuit provided and bring a towel and warm clothes for afterwards. Lace-up trainers suitable for getting wet are recommended for comfort and grip during launching.
Waterproof sunblock is also recommended, particularly during warmer weather.
