Circumnavigate Doi Suthep National Park on the Eliminator 2, the most advanced cross country and downhill ridge ride in the park. Starting from the summit at 1,550m you follow high ridges with ridge-top views, steep singletrack and forgotten jungle trails before a long descent to Huay Tueng Thao lake.
Bike fitting and a shuttle climb to Doi Suthep summit set up a detailed safety briefing at the trailhead. The route immediately exposes ridge-top singletrack with steep exposure and technical sections that demand confident off-road skills.
A solid climb regains altitude before you follow the ridge and drop on the east side, cruising over 1,000m of descent to Huay Tueng Thao lake for a late Thai lunch. Your guide sets a pace that keeps the group safe on exposed sections while still making the most of the technical riding.
A truck transfer returns you to Chiang Mai around 5:30pm after one of the park's most technical and rewarding full-day circuits.
Doi Suthep National Park rises above Chiang Mai with montane forest, ridge roads and highland villages. The Eliminator 2 route circles the park at crest level rather than taking the standard summit-to-lake line, giving accomplished riders a fuller picture of the mountain.
Ridge-top singletrack with exposure and long descents define the day, you'll see sides of Doi Suthep that shuttle-only guests never reach. Finishing at Huay Tueng Thao lake places you lakeside after a demanding ridge day. Bamboo restaurants and optional swimming at the lake make a well-earned finish before the drive back to the city.
Intermediate through expert mountain biking experience and excellent fitness are required. This is a very strenuous day with steep singletrack, significant climbing and sustained off-road riding. Beginners should not attempt this route.
Wear firm shoes, bring a day pack with snacks, insect repellent and a poncho in wet season. Riders from 16 are well suited to the full circumnavigation.
We reserve our hardest routes and canyon runs for guides who paddle and ride at an advanced level themselves, with honest pre-trip advice so you join the right day for your skills. Hotel pickup, quality kit and small groups keep the focus on the line, not the logistics.
Our Chiang Mai base has been running technical mountain biking and white-water kayaking in northern Thailand for years. Tell us your experience level, and we'll match you to water levels and trail conditions that reward confident guests.
Hotel pickup around 9:30am brings you to the adventure base for sign-up, bike selection and helmet and glove fitting. Staff answer questions about the ridge circumnavigation ahead before the shuttle into Doi Suthep National Park toward the summit trailhead.
A scenic drive from 10:30am reaches the trailhead at Doi Suthep summit. Cool mountain air and forest views build anticipation for the advanced ridge ride that circles the national park at crest level rather than following the standard descent route.
At 11:30am guides run a safety briefing and skills check at the summit before you set off circumnavigating the park along the ridge line. Steep singletrack climbs and ridge-top views dominate the early riding as you work around the mountain at high altitude.
The route descends toward a Hmong village before a lengthy singletrack traverse through highland forest. A solid climb regains most of the altitude lost, testing legs before you continue along the ridge toward the east-side descent line.
From the east side of the park you descend over 1,000m to the Mae Ping valley floor, arriving at Huay Tueng Thao lake around 4:30pm. Forgotten off-road trails and plantation tracks reward confident bike handling on the final downhill run.
Thai lunch at lakeside huts refuels you after the long ride. Bikes load onto the support vehicle for the transfer back to your Chiang Mai hotel around 5:30pm, typically arriving in time to freshen up after a demanding ridge day.
The Eliminator 2 circumnavigates Doi Suthep National Park along high ridge lines with steep singletrack climbs and long descents to the valley floor. You ride roughly 32 km over 5 hours with 60% downhill but significant climbing to regain altitude mid-route.
It suits intermediate through expert riders with excellent fitness, not beginners. Expect forgotten off-road trails, ridge views and a late lunch at Huay Tueng Thao lake after a 1,200m net descent from the summit.
The minimum age is 14 years for mountain biking on this trip. Children from 16 are better suited to this advanced ridge route based on the technical terrain and sustained riding time across singletrack and dirt roads. Be sure your teen has enough off-road experience for a demanding full day.
Guides run a safety briefing at Doi Suthep summit before the ride begins. Be sure your child is comfortable with the duration and terrain. Correctly sized equipment is provided on the day where applicable.
Yes. Pickup is included from hotels and guesthouses in Chiang Mai city centre around 9:30am. You will be taken to the adventure base for sign-up and bike fitting before the shuttle to Doi Suthep summit.
After lunch at the lake around 4:30pm, a truck transfer returns you to your accommodation, typically by 5:30pm depending on group pace and traffic. Share your accommodation details ahead of the trip so the driver can find you easily. Allow a few minutes either side of the stated pickup window.
Yes. A Thai lunch is served at lakeside restaurants at Huay Tueng Thao after you reach the valley floor, usually around 4:30pm. This is a late but welcome meal after hours on the ridge and final descent. Bring your favourite snacks in a day pack for energy between stops.
Drinking water is provided during the day. Dietary preferences can usually be accommodated with advance notice. Bring a small snack if you like extra energy between scheduled meal stops.
Quality mountain bikes are set up at the adventure base before departure. Helmets and gloves are included and guides check brakes and saddle height at the summit briefing before circumnavigating the park. Wear firm closed-toe shoes suitable for flat pedals.
Insect repellent and a poncho are useful in wet season when jungle tracks can be slippery. Seat height and brakes are checked before you set off. Bring firm closed-toe shoes and sunglasses for comfort on longer riding sections.
The ride starts at Doi Suthep summit around 1,550m and finishes at Huay Tueng Thao lake at roughly 370m in the Mae Ping valley. Ridge riding, a lengthy singletrack traverse past a Hmong village and a final east-side descent deliver a big elevation drop.
A mid-route climb regains most of the altitude lost early on, so leg strength matters as much as downhill confidence on this circumnavigation.
Tours run in most conditions and ridge riding can be cool and clear even when the city is hot. Heavy rain makes singletrack and dirt roads slippery, so guides adjust pace and line choices for safety. Light rain often adds atmosphere without stopping the trip.
Pack a light rain layer and a dry bag for electronics if showers are forecast. In rare cases of unsafe weather or park access restrictions, we may reschedule your trip.
The route circles Doi Suthep National Park at ridge level with views across the Mae Ping valley accessible only on mountain bike trails. You pass highland forest, a Hmong village and plantation tracks before dropping to Huay Tueng Thao on the east side.
It is the most advanced XC and DH circumnavigation ride in the park, designed for accomplished riders who want ridge scenery with technical trail sections.
Excellent fitness is essential. Rates this trip as very strenuous with 5 hours of riding across varied terrain including steep climbs and sustained descents. Heat and humidity add to the challenge on exposed ridge sections. Regular mountain biking on off-road trails prepares you best.
If you have only done wide jeep-road descents, consider building skills on other Doi Suthep routes first. Pace yourself on climbs and drink water regularly throughout the day. Guides adjust rest stops to match the group so everyone can enjoy the scenery without rushing.
Arrive with sunscreen, plenty of water and comfortable clothing suited to the activity. Wear closed shoes with good grip, and pack a light rain layer if showers are possible during your visit to northern Thailand.
Leave bulky luggage at your hotel and bring only a small day pack for personal essentials. Share your accommodation name and contact number ahead of the trip so morning pickup runs smoothly on the day of your adventure.
