This evening activity sends you on a self-drive electric reindeer sleigh through the forest to our Aurora Cabin, where you'll warm up with glögi and step outside to watch for the northern lights away from Rovaniemi's city glow.
As darkness settles, we'll pick you up from your accommodation in Rovaniemi and drive you to our safari house near Pisavaara Nature Reserve. You'll change into warm winter gear and receive a briefing on the electric reindeer sleigh before setting off along quiet forest trails toward the Aurora Cabin.
Inside the Aurora Cabin you'll warm up by the fire with glögi and Finnish snacks while your guide helps you watch for the northern lights in the dark skies above the wilderness. When you're ready, you'll ride back through the snowy forest, return your gear and we'll transfer you back to Rovaniemi. Aurora sightings depend on weather and solar activity and cannot be guaranteed, but the sleigh ride and cabin stop are rewarding even on quieter nights.
Light pollution stays low around our Aurora Cabin in forest country far from Rovaniemi's street lights. The base beside Pisavaara Nature Reserve feels remote while still being within easy reach of the city.
Evening collection from your accommodation in Rovaniemi is included. We time the transfer so you arrive as darkness falls, which gives you the best window for aurora viewing before the return journey later in the evening.
The electric sleigh needs no driving licence and suits guests with no previous experience. Children from age three can join with an adult. Dress in thermal layers under the provided overalls for evening temperatures.
Dress warmly underneath the gear we provide, especially for time spent outside the cabin. Cloud cover affects aurora viewing more than cold weather alone, and your guide adapts the pace if conditions change during the evening.
Small groups suit aurora evenings, and we run these outings from private land beside the nature reserve. Electric sleighs move quietly through the forest, and our Aurora Cabin location is chosen specifically for dark-sky viewing.
Local knowledge about the northern lights and Arctic winter conditions is something our guides share throughout the evening. Every guide holds an official travel industry safety passport, and we keep groups small so everyone has space at the cabin fire and a clear view of the sky when you step outside.
Your evening begins with pickup from your accommodation in Rovaniemi. Relax on the scenic drive through Lapland's winter landscape to our safari house near the Pisavaara Nature Reserve as darkness settles over the Arctic forest.
At the safari house you'll change into warm winter overalls, boots and gloves. Your guide explains how the electric reindeer sleigh works and outlines the route through the forest to the Aurora Cabin before you head out into the snow.
Set off on your self-drive electric reindeer sleigh along quiet snowy trails into the darkening forest. The near-silent motor lets you hear the winter landscape and watch for wildlife as you glide toward the Aurora Cabin beneath the Arctic sky.
Arrive at the Aurora Cabin in the wilderness and warm up by the fire with hot glögi and Finnish snacks. Step outside to watch for the northern lights in the dark skies above the forest, away from city light pollution.
