You'll be discovering Hrísey, the pearl of Eyjafjörður, on a private electric mountain bike tour that begins at the Árskógsandur ferry dock, crosses to the island with your guide and explores village lanes and trails toward the lighthouse with wide views in every direction.
The ferry crossing is part of the adventure, and on a clear day you'll be watching the coastline slide past as Hrísey comes into view. Once ashore you'll get comfortable on the e-MTBs along quiet village paths before riding trails that climb gently toward the island lighthouse at the top.
You'll be breathing fresh sea air, soaking up open horizons and enjoying the unhurried pace of a car-free island where birds, harbour life and coastal light set the mood. When the guided ride ends you can return with your guide or stay longer for geothermal baths, food at the local restaurant or a later ferry if you want to extend the island day.
Hrísey sits in Eyjafjörður and is reached by ferry from Árskógsandur on the mainland, which makes the journey feel like a mini expedition before you even start pedalling. The island is known for birdlife, coastal scenery and a relaxed rhythm of life without regular road traffic, so riding here feels calm and spacious.
Trails lead from the harbour through the village and up toward the lighthouse, and on good days you'll be looking across the fjord to mountains on every side. It's a brilliant way to experience a side of North Iceland that many visitors only glimpse from the mainland shore.
You won't need mountain biking experience for this tour, though you should be comfortable on a bicycle for a few hours on easy gravel and grass tracks. The e-bike motor helps on the gentle climb toward the lighthouse, so you'll be able to enjoy the island views without worrying about fitness.
Windproof, waterproof clothing and sturdy footwear are sensible because exposed island weather can feel cooler than on the mainland. Bring a bathing suit if you plan to use the geothermal baths after the ride, and arrive at the ferry dock in good time so you can board with your guide.
You'll be travelling with ferry fares, premium e-MTBs and a private guide included, which keeps the logistics simple and lets you focus on the island experience from the moment you meet at the dock. Equipment and a traditional Icelandic snack are provided for your group, so the day feels well looked after without extra fuss.
It suits anyone who wants a memorable half-day that mixes a sea crossing, easy riding and a place that feels genuinely different from the mainland. Your guide knows Hrísey's trails and ferry timings, so whether you head straight back or linger for a soak and a meal, the day can unfold at your pace.
This is a private tour for your group only, with one to four riders per booking. That keeps the pace flexible on the island trails and lets your guide tailor the route to your ability.
If your group is larger than four, get in touch before you book and we can arrange a private departure or split the group.
There's no set minimum age, but every rider must be tall enough to use a size S e-bike safely and confidently. Younger or shorter riders should contact us before you book so we can confirm bike fit.
All riders should be comfortable cycling for several hours on easy island tracks and gentle climbs to the lighthouse.
Round-trip ferry fares between Árskógsandur and Hrísey are part of your tour. Your guide travels with you on the ferry, which is part of the experience on clear days.
Ferry schedules vary by season, so check your confirmation for departure times and arrive at the dock in good time.
High-end electric mountain bikes, helmets, gloves, glasses, jerseys and a traditional Icelandic snack are included for your private group. Your guide leads the whole session on the island.
We prepare the bikes before the ferry crossing so you can start riding soon after arrival on Hrísey.
Meet at the ferry dock in Árskógsandur, Árskógsandsvegur (621). We meet here rather than at our Dalvík base, so arrive early enough to find your guide and board the ferry together.
Parking is available near the harbour. You'll need to make your own way to the ferry dock.
When the guided ride ends you can return on the ferry with your guide or stay longer on Hrísey. Many guests visit the public geothermal baths, eat at the island restaurant or take a stroll before a later ferry.
Extra time on the island, meals, bath entry or later ferry tickets are at your own cost unless you arrange them with us in advance.
Windproof and waterproof outdoor clothing plus sturdy shoes or hiking boots are recommended. The island can be breezy even on sunny days, so dress in layers.
Bring a bathing suit if you plan to use the geothermal baths after the ride. Riding gloves are provided.
We run tours in most conditions, but high winds or rough seas can affect ferry sailings and trail choices. Your guide chooses safe routes on the island and may adjust plans if the weather turns.
If we need to change plans for weather or safety, we'll contact you using the details on your booking.
After you book, we'll email you a pre-tour preparation note with practical tips for your date.
Check your inbox and spam folder in the days before your tour, and reply if we ask for sizing or experience details.
The crossing is usually short and scenic, and your guide boards with you so the day stays simple. Exact sailing times depend on the season and the daily ferry schedule.
Arrive at Árskógsandur in good time before your booked departure so you can meet your guide, get oriented and board without rushing.

About the centre
Árskógsandur
Explore North Iceland on private guided electric mountain bike tours from Dalvík, with routes through coastal valleys, forest trails, and island landscapes around Eyjafjörður. Sessions are kept small so guides can match the pace and difficulty to your riding experience, whether you want a relaxed valley ride or a more adventurous trail day.
High-end e-MTBs, helmets, gloves, glasses, and jerseys are provided, along with a traditional Icelandic snack on longer tours. Local guides share trail knowledge and the scenery of one of Iceland's most scenic northern towns, with meeting points in Dalvík and ferry access for island adventures.
