Head straight to the red dunes at Al Madam for a fast-paced hour of quad biking, dune buggy driving and sandboarding, without any pickup stops to slow the day down. This is a self-drive session for anyone who wants to get straight into the sand rather than build a whole day around it.
After checking in at the meeting point, riders are matched to either a quad bike or a dune buggy and given a safety briefing before heading out onto the dunes. The hour is spent riding a marked route across the red sand, with a stop partway through for sandboarding down one of the softer slopes.
Because there is no pickup involved, the whole session moves quickly from arrival to riding, making it a good fit for anyone already out near Al Madam or short on time.
Al Madam sits in the desert belt between Dubai and Sharjah, known for its tall red dunes and the abandoned village that has become a local landmark nearby. The sand here is coarser and more dramatically shaped than the flatter desert closer to the coast, which is part of why it's a popular spot for quad biking and buggy driving.
The site is reached via a short drive off the main highway, with parking close to the riding area itself. Being outside the city, the desert opens up quickly once you arrive, giving a real sense of scale that's hard to get from shorter trips closer to Dubai.
No previous riding experience is required, though the pace here is a little quicker than a fully guided family trip, so a reasonable level of confidence and fitness helps you get the most from the hour. Guides run through the controls for both the quad bike and buggy options before anyone sets off, and the route is chosen to suit mixed-ability groups.
Closed-toe shoes and clothing you don't mind getting sandy are recommended, along with sunglasses or goggles for the ride. Anyone with back, neck or joint concerns should mention this before starting, as the terrain does involve bumps and vibration throughout.
Running quad bikes and buggies from the same desert site means the vehicles are close at hand and well maintained between sessions, with staff on hand who know the Al Madam dunes and can point riders to the best sections for their ability. Skipping the hotel pickup keeps the session efficient for anyone who wants to fit desert riding around a tighter schedule.
The option to choose between a quad bike and a buggy, alongside the sandboarding stop, means the hour still covers a good spread of activities rather than just one repeated loop.
About the centre
Sharjah
Based in Dubai, this team specialises in desert safari experiences across the red dunes, combining jeep rides, quad bikes, dune buggies, camel stops, and evening camp dinners. Guests are collected from hotels, villas, and apartments in Dubai, Sharjah, and Ajman, so the day starts from where you are staying rather than a fixed meeting point in the city.
Activities are led by guides who know the dune routes and camp programmes well, with equipment provided for the adventure elements. Whether you want a high-energy buggy run or a fuller evening with dinner and shows, the focus is a clear, well-paced desert day from pickup through to return.
