Experience the beauty of the Brecon Beacons with an exciting mountain biking adventure. Led by Steve, your experienced guide, you'll traverse quiet lanes, rocky descents, and forest trails while taking in amazing views. Whether you're tackling the challenging climbs or enjoying the exhilarating descents, this 16-mile ride is perfect for those with a good level of fitness and confidence in bike handling. Your adventure begins in Crickhowell, cycling between the Sugar Loaf Mountain and the Black Mountains. You'll ride through a scenic valley and climb with expansive views overlooking the area. The first off-road section features a rocky descent through the woods to a small hamlet, where you'll cross a river before heading onto the roads again for a sharp climb. Following a stone wall alongside a pine forest, you’ll approach a river crossing that leads into the forest.
As you ascend towards the Black Mountain, the terrain becomes steeper, but the views from the summit are incredible. After joining the Beacons Way, prepare for a thrilling descent down natural trails with panoramic Welsh mountain views. The route takes you through woods, over loose rocks, and back onto quiet lanes. The adventure concludes alongside a large river, as you make your way back to the village of Glangrwyney.
The tour begins in Crickhowell, a charming town located in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Nestled between the Sugar Loaf Mountain and the Black Mountains, the area offers a spectacular setting for outdoor exploration.
With quiet mountain lanes and rugged trails, Crickhowell is an ideal spot for a day of adventure.
This ride requires a good level of fitness and confidence in mountain bike handling skills. You should be comfortable with challenging climbs and descents, and be prepared for varying terrain.
Participants must have bikes in safe, working order, and helmets must be within the manufacturer’s warranty period. A rider’s information form will be sent after booking and must be completed prior to the event.
You’ll be guided by a fully qualified Mountain Bike Leader accredited through British Cycling, with full DBS approval and outdoor first aid qualifications. We are committed to ensuring a safe, enjoyable, and rewarding experience for all riders.
Our public liability insurance through British Cycling offers peace of mind, and with small group sizes of up to five riders, you’ll receive personalised attention and expert guidance throughout the tour.
We require all riders to fill in a rider information form ahead of their tour. Within this includes information about any medical conditions you have. Completing these forms is part of ensuring that you are insured on your ride.
All of our tours feature a ‘pit stop’ at a local café or place to eat.
Please bring your own money or card to purchase any drinks or snacks you require.
