Deep within the Sierra Bermeja valleys near Estepona, this canyoning route follows a mountain river through waterfalls, rock corridors and technical rope descents. It is designed for participants who are comfortable with more demanding terrain and want a structured canyoning challenge. Movement through the gorge combines natural water flow with guided progression through varied features.
Arrival in the Sierra Bermeja area includes equipment fitting and a full briefing covering the route and safety procedures. Initial sections follow the riverbed with walking and light scrambling as the canyon begins to narrow. Early movement focuses on adjusting to the terrain before reaching more technical features.
Rope-based descents appear as the canyon deepens, including multiple waterfall rappels up to 20 metres. Each section is demonstrated before use, with step-by-step guidance provided throughout. Between these features, river passages and rocky transitions create a steady rhythm of movement.
Final sections transition into wider river channels where the canyon gradually opens. A short refreshment stop marks the end of the activity before leaving the area.
Positioned just inland from Estepona, Sierra Bermeja forms a rugged mountain environment defined by volcanic rock, pine forest and steep river valleys. The canyon runs through one of these valleys, shaped over time by seasonal water flow and erosion.
Surrounding terrain offers a remote natural setting with changing elevation and narrow waterways. Depending on position within the canyon, views extend across the valley and occasionally towards the coastline.
Strong general fitness is required due to the technical nature of the route, which includes climbing, swimming and rope-assisted descents. Previous canyoning experience is recommended as the activity involves more advanced sections.
Comfort in water and confidence moving over uneven rock are important throughout the experience. Full instruction is provided at every stage to support safe progression.
