A river canyoning route through the Guadalmina gorge near Estepona that combines swimming, rock movement and optional jumps in a natural river setting. The activity is guided throughout and follows a steady progression through narrow sections, pools and rock channels. It’s designed as an introduction to canyoning while still offering variety and movement in a changing environment.
The experience begins at the meeting point where you’ll be fitted with equipment and given a full safety briefing before entering the canyon. The first section of the route follows shallow water and open rock areas, allowing time to adjust to the environment while moving through the river at a steady pace. Early stages focus on simple progression and getting comfortable in the surroundings.
As the canyon narrows, you’ll encounter a mix of swimming sections and natural rock passages. Along the way there are several optional jumps of varying height, including a maximum of around 5 metres, all of which can be bypassed if preferred. Movement continues between pools, short walks over rock and guided transitions through tighter sections.
Near the end of the route, you’ll complete a controlled 4-metre rappel down a rock face with full instruction and support. After this section, the canyon opens out again, leading to the final stretch before exiting the river and returning to the start point.
The Guadalmina River canyon is located inland from Estepona in the Benahavís area, surrounded by rocky hills and natural river valleys. This section of river is known for its clear water pools, narrow channels and varied rock formations that create a distinct natural setting.
The meeting point is close to Ermita del Rosario in Benahavís, providing straightforward access to the canyon entry. The wider area forms part of a protected natural landscape often used for outdoor activities, offering a contrast to the nearby coastal towns.
Participants must be able to swim, as several sections involve moving through water channels and natural pools. No previous canyoning experience is required, as guidance is provided throughout the route.
A reasonable level of general mobility is helpful for moving over uneven rock and entering or exiting the water. The activity is structured to remain accessible while still including varied terrain and features.
