Enjoy a guided canoe trip along the River Clyde, perfect for pairs and small groups wanting to experience the Scottish countryside from the water. Whether aiming to improve paddling skills or just relax on the river, this trip offers a flexible, enjoyable outing suited to all abilities aged 10 and above.
Starting near Biggar, your group will set off on a leisurely paddle downstream along the River Clyde. The route offers a gentle current and scenic views of rolling hills, woodlands, and open farmland. Wildlife is commonly spotted on and beside the river, with frequent sightings of herons, birds of prey, and sometimes otters.
Halfway through, the group will pause for a snack break, so feel free to bring your favourite refreshments. Canoes are equipped with dry barrels to keep belongings safe and dry. The trip finishes at Wolfclyde, where transport back to the start can be arranged if needed. Instructors remain on hand throughout to provide guidance, tailor the experience to your group’s pace, and ensure everyone is comfortable and safe.
The trip takes place on the River Clyde, starting just outside Biggar at Wandle and finishing at Wolfclyde Bridge. This stretch of river is peaceful and scenic, showcasing the natural beauty of South Lanarkshire’s countryside. The meeting point will be confirmed upon booking and is easily accessible by car.
Wolfclyde Bridge, the finish point, is situated close to local amenities and parking. The route gives paddlers a chance to experience one of Scotland’s major rivers in a calm, accessible setting with diverse wildlife and countryside vistas.
Please note: The guide can transport up to five people back to the meeting point at the end of the trip to collect their car if needed.
No previous canoeing experience is needed for this trip as full instruction and all equipment will be provided at the start. The route is gentle and suitable for beginners, making it a great introduction to paddling. Participants should be comfortable spending several hours outdoors and able to engage in light physical activity.
A willingness to learn and work as part of a team is important, as paddling a tandem canoe requires some coordination. You should also be prepared for typical outdoor conditions, including weather changes, and dress accordingly to ensure a comfortable experience.
The centre is committed to delivering personalised adventures that suit your group’s skill level and preferences. Experienced instructors offer clear, supportive guidance throughout the trip to help you develop confidence and enjoy the journey. Safety is always a priority, ensuring a relaxed and enjoyable experience for everyone.
Whether you’re looking for a fun family outing, a social day with friends, or a team-building activity, the River Clyde canoe trip offers a chance to connect with nature and each other. The team’s local knowledge and flexible approach mean the adventure can be tailored to meet your needs while making the most of the beautiful Scottish countryside.
We recommend old clothing/trainers that you're happy to get a little wet. We also recommend a spare change of clothes, just in case! We also recommend you wear waterproofs. Please bring any snacks and refreshments you might want along the way.
We provide 30-litre dry barrels between two to keep your things dry, and provide all of the canoeing and safety equipment.
Generally, two people would normally share a boat.
Your group must all be aged 10+ to take part in the river trip. If you have youngsters aged 4+, we recommend taking a look at our loch and canal trips at the bottom of this page, which are suitable for younger paddlers.
We will always try to give as much notice as possible if an activity can’t go ahead. It could be the river is too high for canoeing or we are expecting weather warnings for wind. Sometimes things are out of our control and we may have to cancel with very short notice. In all cases, we will try to offer an alternative activity or location. In the event of a canceled activity by us, you will be refunded if we cannot find a suitable alternative date/time/activity for your group.
However, it's worth saying that we will only cancel in the event that it is unsafe to paddle. A bit of drizzle won't stop us! Please assume the trip is going ahead, unless we contact you to say otherwise. The vast majority of our trips go ahead as planned, come rain or shine!
Absolutely. The photo at the top of this page is from a recent stag do. We can tailor this trip to you and your group, no trouble. Any special requests, please just mention them in the comments when you book, or send the adventuro team a message in the chat for bespoke arrangements.
